[edit] BACKGROUND

Abigail Carter was born to Doctor Sam Carter a prominent Astrophysicist and then-Captain Natalee Carter, in Sydney Australia. She was raised mainly by her father as her mother was often out on assignment. Abby was shy in her youth but once she got to school she began to make more friends and become more outgoing. She displayed a great aptitude for the sciences from an early age, building a model nuclear reactor for her 5th grade science fair, short of fuel it was fully operational.

Graduating High School at 16 she was accepted into the Faculty of Science at Charles Darwin University, where she completed a Bachelors of Science specialized in Physics in 3 years. Carter loved the University life style, learning, libraries bigger then her entire high school and parties 7 nights a week if you so chose. After getting her BSc at CDU she was accepted into Oxford University where she completed her Masters of Science in Astrophysics. She also meet a Marine noncom Peter Douglas, doing flight training at Oxford Air Field. After she completed her Masters she moved on to Cambridge where she completed her Doctorate.

Shortly before she completed her schooling Pete proposed and the two got married in the South of France. It was 2371 and continually increased tensions lead to Abby being worried about Pete, so she joined Starfleet, not wanting to waste four years in the academy and knowing how much Pete hated officers, she enlisted.

Given the amount of background training in the Sciences she had, Carter was granted special dispensation and was promoted directly from Crewman Recruit to Petty Officer 3rd Class, and assigned as the Astrometrics Specialist aboard the USS Trafalgar (NCC-4095-B), an Intrepid class ship, she served here until the Dominion War broke out.

The start of the war brought two major changes to Abby's life, she was promoted and assigned as to Supply and Logistic Scouting, for Starfleet's Third Logistic Division, scouring huge amounts of data for possible usable mineral deposits and other beneficial planets. Also Sergeant Major Peter Douglas, her husband, was killed early in the war.

The war ended and Petty Officer 1st Class Carter returned to the Trafalgar, but it's replacement the USS Trafalgar (NCC-4095-C) as it's Chief Scientist mate, and served here for three years. From there she was promoted to Senior Chief, and returned to Earth and took two years of Starfleet Medical training, waiting to expand her skill set. In 2380 she was posted to the USS Odyssey (NCC-71832-A) as its Chief Scientist Mate, being promoted to Senior Chief in 2382, before transferring to the Oberon in 2384.

Eight months in the dual Capacity of Chief Scientist Mate, and Chief of the Boat on Oberon was followed by a transfer to the Sigma Librae Outpost in a similar capacity.
