MCPO Alex Jackson is an officer with Starfleet. He is the former Chief Engineer aboard the Galaxy-class USS Athena (NCC-80353), achieving the position at the age of 23.
[edit] BACKGROUND
Alex grew up in the historical city of York, in northern England. Born to two teacher parents, Alex’s early school years saw him achieve high marks in all subjects. This was down to his pushy parents, who refused to let their son be a slacker. This made Alex a deeply unhappy child. His only escape was spending time with his elderly grandfather, who would often tell Alex stories about Battles, Wars and Heroes from years gone by, while they tinkered with old machines (his grandfather was a retired engineer).
When he left high school, and with no real ambitions, Alex enrolled on a History course at Manchester College, the one subject he had grown an interest in. Finally being away from his parents constant pressuring Alex started to enjoy life. Some would say a little too much. His first year at college was largely spent partying, often to be found in the local Klingon bar drinking Blood Wine with his friends. It was during this period, on a drunken night, that he got his initials tattooed on his arm.
Alex’s partying days continued until the death of his Grandfather. At the funeral Alex remembered how proud his grandfather had been when Alex told him about his History course, and his desire to enter Starfleet. He instantly felt horrified that he had let his grandfather down by wasting his time at college.
Upon his return to college, Alex vowed to pass the course, enter Starfleet, and make his grandfather proud of him once more. He studied hard, often doing extra work to make up for the time he lost. When he wasn’t studying he would spend his free time repairing machines, using skills he had picked up from his grandfather. Alex’s hard work paid off, and he managed to do enough to pass the course.
Returning home he visited his grandfather’s grave before enlisting in Starfleet.
[edit] Service History
Alex completed Starfleet basic training as a Crewman Recruit. Upon completion of the course he was assigned to the USS Yeager where he served as a Crewman Apprentice. Working along side the Chief Petty Officer he learnt about the various systems aboard a starship, carrying out various tasks.
After 18 months aboard the Yeager Alex was transferred to the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards where he was made a Crewman. His primary role was as a Structural Engineer, fitting, replacing and repairing bulkheads. After only 9 months Alex was promoted to Petty Officer Third Class and transferred to the Danube Class Construction Project. Here he led a team of Crewmen in fitting out the new batch of Danube Class runabouts with various bulkheads and structural pieces. After spending over a year on this project he felt it was time to move on and he asked for a chance to take the NCO advanced course at Starfleet Academy. His request was approved, but instead of Starfleet Academy he was sent to the Sixthfleet Academy. Prior to his departure from Utopia Planitia, Alex’s Chief had put him up for promotion to Petty Officer Second Class. The promotion came through while he was at the Academy.
The Advanced Studies on Alpha Centuari went well, and Alex largely enjoyed his time there. His instructor was a pleasant Tellarite by the name of MCPO Bru’kh. The two shared a passion for engineering and would often continue their lessons in the Bat’leth Bar, where Alex learnt much more than he did in the classroom. He graduated the course and was promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class. He was also awarded the Sixthfleet Academy Commendation for Excellence. With his advanced studies over Alex was transferred to the USS Athena as an Engineering Technician.
Alex’s first mission aboard the Athena was a memorable one. He saw a lot of action and worked on the bridge during an encounter with the Gorn. He was also part of the away team that visited the stricken Gorn vessel. His actions during this mission led him to being promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Early in 2384 The Athena encountered a Defiant-class ship called the Athena. This Alternate Athena came from a parallel universe where the Federation was being overrun by the Dominion. Aboard this ship Alex encountered his alternate self, Lex Jackson. Lex was the Chief Engineer aboard the Alternate Athena, and ended up assuming Alex's life for a period in an attempt to steal the stardrive section of the real Athena. Luckily they were prevented from doing this, but Alex was left to deal with the fall out from the impostor taking over his life.
Whilst on Shore leave Alex and his good friend, a Ferengi merchant by the name of Graila attended a baseball game down on Cestus III. Upon their return the shuttle craft they were travelling in suffered engine problems as a result of an explosive device. Alex found out that his friend was being hunted by the Orion Syndicate. Luckily the shuttle managed to land safely and Alex was able to make some repairs so that they could call for help. The situation made him realise how much better he’d become at handling pressure and during his next mission that was put to the test some more. Having had to shoulder some of the responsibility for Engineering when the Athena left Starbase 218, Alex found himself being in charge of the skeleton engineering staff. They rallied around and managed to make some alterations to the sensors to enable the ship to navigate the D'rin'jian Nebulae in an attempt to chase down Francois LeHook and his cronies. Unfortunately LeHook escaped with the stolen android, but recent events and the responsibilities he’d been given had made Alex re-evaluate his career, and when he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and offered the position of Chief Engineer he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
During his first mission as Chief Engineer Alex found it difficult at first to lead the entire engineering team, but as the mission unfolded the pressure and difficulties soon put aside his doubts, and he had engineering working at full strength. Overcoming some sensor difficulties as a result of the Amanki the Athena managed uncover the truth behind the planets new technological advances as a result of a Founder. Sadly Alex was forced to deal with the loss of his former girlfriend, when T'Sal was killed by Mama Tauni.
After several more eventful missions Alex began to settle into his role as Chief Engineer and his relationship with Jessie Fraser blossomed. Towards the end of 2385 Alex was forced to work out how to land the Galaxy-class Athena when they were attacked by a Vidiian ship. Thankfully the massive ship survived and with the help of the same Vidiians they were able to get her flying again. After this mission Alex was proudly promoted to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, achieving the ambition he'd had ever since completing Sixth Fleet Academy.
On a diplomatic mission into Romulan space the USS Athena is caught up in the internal politics that have become a part of Romulan society since the demise of Shinzon. During the mission Captain Ander Ordonis is taken by the Tal Shiar. The crew of the USS Athena try in vain to find and resuce their Captain but are soon ordered back to Federation space. The episode greatly upsets Alex as he considers Ander his friend. It also puts strain on his relationship with Jessie and the two drift apart.
In 2386 the Athena was inadvertently sent back in time by an alien computer system. They were sent back to the year 2342 where they found themselves assisting the Enterprise-C as it attempted to escape a Tholian Web. Using the holodecks and other technology at their disposal the crew of the Athena tried to preserve the timeline as they fought to aid the Enterprise. Later, they used a slingshot around a star to return themselves to the present, only for Alex to find out that he was now an officer, ranked at Lieutenant. This disconcerted him and he worried over what else about his life had changed.
Alex didn't have to worry about being Lieutenant too long however, as following questioning by Temporal Investigations he was reinstated as Master Chief Petty Officer and returned to active service back at Utopia Planitia.

Medical/Psychology Report:
Alexander has a deep hatred of learning and studying, this probably stems from his early schooling when his parents pushed him to achieve top marks in everything. This hatred has been overwhelmed by his new ambitious nature, most likely driven by self inflicted guilt upon the death of his grandfather. Other than this he is physically fit with no restrictions as to his service. Dr K.P. Yung, Utopia Planitia.
