Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Chance is the Chief Stratic Operations Officer Starbase 418.

[edit] BACKGROUND

Alexandria Eviess Chance, or "Alex" as she likes to be known, an only child at first, resided primarily on Star Base 937 where her father and mother worked. She grew up far from Earth and only visited a few times a year for family vacations mixed with business for her father, and at times a trip or two to Romulus to visit her mothers family. Alexandria was shown the wonders of music, the arts and other forms of recreation by her mother, but a larger emphasis was placed upon the importance of work ethics, personal strength, and up holding the family honor by achieving the best there was to be gained in their families’ name.

In 2352, at the tender age of six Alexandria’s life came crashing down when her mother fell victim to a raiders attack during a return trip home from Romulus. It was never found out as to whom the raiders were, nor, why they chose that particular civilian transport, but even Starfleet Intelligence, off the record, performed a look into the matter. Alexandria was now alone with her father.

In 2357, Alexandria’s father meets Stephanie Lori Cavanaugh, a school teacher, while on a mini vacation to Sydney Australia on Earth. They fell in love and married one year later; at first Alexandria resisted the idea of a replacement mother, but in time came to love her new step mother, and accepted her new family. It was not long before Alexandria became a proud sister to Marcus William Chance, and gladly assumed her role as big sister.

Over the years, Alexandria was encouraged not only to explore her Romulan Heritage, but to keep in contact with her birth mothers, family. This helped Alexandria greatly in understanding just who she truly was, and to come to terms with area’s her father and step mother could not comprehend. Alexandria grew up in a loving environment, even when in her teens her brother became a “nuisance”. Still flying shuttles, and the odd fighter (with father), Alexandria grew more passionate in her everyday life, and outlook towards her own future. Little did she know, her deceased mothers influence was implanted within her, even in her earlier years.

Alexandria took to flying small system-crafts at a very early age as her father was a Starfleet engineer working supervisory with a successful private corporation "Dirigent Engineering Corporation". Alexandria showed an aptitude for piloting and was bent on learning from her father who was considered an ace pilot every opportunity that availed itself. Alexandria with the loss of her mother was seldom denied her passions. When Alexandria was 10 years old, she already knew what her chosen career was going to be as she had always been fascinated with space and what lied further beyond her sight, as well with Starfleet's marines in general. Alexandria fascination with the SFMC stemmed from when SB 937 played host on multiple occasions to the Marine Corps annual competitions, her father was able to get her access to areas other children were not permitted. Using this dream and ambition as a personal motivation, Alexandria decided that by putting together the better of two worlds. She was going to be a marine pilot and nothing, was going to hinder her dream.

Alexandria always excelled in both academics and most physical sports and activities. Academics came naturally for Alexandria, she always seemed to be near the top of the class, though her social structure suffered marginally; she was always an assignment ahead and made the grade. In her last tenure of private school, Alexandria earned a standing as a junior swords master, a skill possessed by her grandfather which clearly passed on down to Alexandria. Alexandria only had one "serious" boyfriend, a Davis Wilcox, in her last year of attending Dirigent Academy of Technology and Arts, but upon graduation went their separate ways as Alexandria took SF Academy as her career path.

At age 16, Alexandria joined Starfleet Academy (with both her parents support), and performed to the best of her ability, and ended up in the top 5%. To her superiors this was remarkable, because Alexandria came from an unorthodox Starfleet family. But to Alexandria, this was less than good, as she felt she should have worked harder to reach the top 1%. At the academy, Alexandria made many friends, but always shunned the advances of potential male suitors to focus on her studies. Alexandria studied as she did in her secondary education, always driving herself harder than those she deemed to be equals or peers, this was a built in trait and resemblance to her birth mother.

Starfleet Career History

Alexandria Chance joined Starfleet in the year 2361 at the age of 16. Her original plan was to train as a pilot, her first passion, after completing her first year of academy general studies. In her second year Cadet Alexandria Chance completed successfully her first year as pilot, but was bored as there was no challenge in it for her as she and her father during her childhood piloted various shuttles and runabouts. She no longer felt the glamour of being a pilot she once had. Cadet Chance after seeking Academy counseling, and upon taking their recommendation, decided to challenge herself by taking Tactical & Security studies, this she found more exhilarating and challenging. Much to her instructor’s surprise, Cadet Chance was quite apt in her new found skills, so much so, that a third party of Starfleet kept a watchful eye.

Upon graduating from Starfleet's Academy, Alexandria was recruited into Starfleet Intelligence, a true testimony to her mother’s teachings (something that Alexandria was never quite aware of, but thought of as mother-daughter quality time) , as it never was divulged, that Alexandria’s birth mother was in reality an double agent within Starfleet and an actual Commander before her untimely death. With the extensive training at the hands of Intel Division, Alexandria instinctively developed a strong loyalty to her new found career path, and never knowing there were many more skeletons within her own families closet.

2372 - As history records, the Klingon Empire dissolved the Khitomer Peace Accords and a renewed Cold War began between the Empire and the Federation. The First Battle of Deep Space Nine was the focal point of most engagements of the renewed age old Cold War. The USS Protector, along with many other ships of the line, were forefront during the campaign. It was here that MCapt. Alexandria Chance at age 27, was put to the metal of her skills as a Intel Operative. MCapt. Alexandria Chance participated in several joint ventures (and one solo) in the collection of Intelligence prudent to the deployment and engagments of Starfleets command. Due to the sensitive and classified nature of said operations, not much is known about them, save at the highest command level. It was noted by Captain Benjamin Sisko, that many lives were changed because of the blood thirsty war, and MCapt. Alexandria Chance was no different than most now considered veterans.

Early in 2373 the Klingons and Federation finally came to terms and agreed to a temporary ceasefire, however, there were still several isolated incidents between the two sides while attempting to come to a resolution of the cease fire. One incident in particular involving the USS Protector on her own, which led to her being crippled, and one MCapt. Alexandria Chance yet again distinguishing herself on the bridge. The USS Protector came under attack by two cloaked Klingon Bird of Prey, during the battle, the bridge sustained heavy damage, and her Captain – Kane Demers (NPC) was KIA, and the majority of the command officers were either seriously wounded or KIA themselves. It was here that MCapt. Alexandria Chance assumed command, and continued in the truest of Starfleet tradition, delivered return fire while trying to escape, and avoid destruction. It was fortunate that the USS Venture and her Fighter contingent were near enough to render aid within the first fifteen minutes of battle, and crippled not one, but both Klingon ships, sending them home in dishonor.

However……….

Late 2373 the Dominion War marked another black page in history with the Second Battle for Deep Space Nine, and the Federation still dealing with the scabs of the Klingon/Federation War. Whereas the Cardassians having announced that they’d joined the Dominion as allies, forced the Federation and the Klingon Empire to ban together to shift their focus on the Cardassians and thier new allies. USS Protector, where MCapt. Aleaxdria Chance still serving as Senior Intelligence Operative, was present both at that battle, and behind the scenes whenever vital Intelligence was required. Over the few years MCapt. Alexandria Chance played a pivital part in every major conflict of the war including Operation Return, the Battle of Betazed, the First and Second Battles of Chin’toka and the Battle of Cardassia. Although every aspect of the war was cruicial to Starfleet’s hold on DS9, MCapt. Aleaxdria Chance distinquished herself as a valuable assett as an Intel Operative.

2374 - Level 1 Reprimand - Classification: Disorderly Conduct and Conduct Unbecoming an Officer: The investigation that was undertaken into this incident has been met with a chain of proverbial "stone wall". Conflicting reports from patrons of the Quarks Bar and Gaming House of Marine Captains Alexandria Chance involvement was not as innocent as the convening tribunal was led to believe. For this "brawl", it was in the opinion of the investigating tribunal that Marine Captain Alexandria Chance being on the "fast-track" through command could be “unofficially” overlooked. However she would remain in her current grade of Marine Captain for an additional term in lieu of a court martial.

2377 Temporal Investigations, initiated an investigation of the aid given by a future Admiral Janeway, which resulted in the lost U.S.S. Voyager safe, if not heart felt & happy return to the Alpha Quadrant. Major Alexandria’s assignment was to spear head and safe guard the valuable Intel and resources collected by Captain Janeway and her crew upon their initial return to Starfleet. This was a task not to be taken lightly as it was felt the loss of cruical technology and information of the Voyager’s time in the Delta Quadrant could not fall into the wrong hands. Major Alexandria was temporarily reassigned from the USS Miranda for this breif, but vital assignment on behalf of Starfleet Intelligence.

In 2380, it was felt that Major Alexandria’s time in the field as an operative, and key roles on some of her classified assignments were required benificial to the traning and development of a new breed of Starfleet Intelligence Operatives. She was assigned as an instructor at Intelligence Ground Facility on Tracos, where she educated and developed hopeful Intel Operatives. Her teachings were a valuable asset to both the trainees, and to Starfleet Intelligence Administration as a whole. During her four year tenure as an instructor, it was here that she meets with Captain Kyle Summerland (NPC), and a romantic liaison ensued.

2385 - Due to the overwhelming need for operatives aboard, Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Chance was placed on assignment on Starbase 418 to render assistance of her skills as Chief Strategic Operations Officer. However, Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Chance has been instructed to keep a vigil eye on the crew of Starbase 418, and to report anything suspicious to her direct superior until her recall or need by SFI Headquarters.

2365-2367 Starbase 88: Trainee/2nd Lt. Alexandria Chance during her first year training had shown great promise in the basic skills of Black Ops. Trainee Chance possessing a natural highly tuned skill with small arms, concealment and infiltration, was nurtured in this direction as it is felt she would be an asset to Starfleet Intelligence in the way of specialized infiltration and extraction.

Trainee Chance, completing the two year training regime for basic operative standings, was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant with high standings among her peers, and officially welcomed into the family of Starfleet Intelligence. 1st Lieutenant Chance first assignment was given to facilitate her skills, and to evaluate her as a field operative. It was a success.

2367-2369 Starfleet Command: 1st Lieutenant Chance under cover as "Lieutenant Luanna Railton", was assigned to infiltrate and collect information on what Starfleet Intelligence felt was a leak within the very walls of R&D. It took 1st Lieutenant Chance three months to establish that there was indeed a leak of technology to the Orion Syndicate, information which was provided by SFI to be leaked and traced. 1st Lieutenant Chance befriended who she suspected to be the leak (Lieutenant Commander Alyson Shokuso), and even went as far as to begin a romance with the suspect to gain further trust and access.

It paid off.

1st Lieutenant Chance became entrusted by the suspect- Lieutenant Commander Alyson Shokuso that the Lieutenant Commander soon let 1st Lieutenant Chance in on what was transpiring in the way of the trade of information with the Orion Syndicate, recruiting 1st Lieutenant Chance to secure potentially more sensitive material to barter with the Orion Syndicate. 1st Lieutenant Chance in reporting to her handler, set out the next rendezvous for the trade of information, SFI moved in.

The operation was a moderate success, 1st Lieutenant Chance received a commendation for her valued efforts in said operation which took just over two years to complete. Although the leak was sealed, the Orion Syndicate always seems to find a way to corrupt and collect sensitive Federation material despite SFI efforts - the battle rages on.

2375 – Marine Captain Alexandria was placed under deep cover on Cardassia. Even though she retains only ¼ of her Romulan heritage, with slight medical intervention, she was able to slip on to Cardassia Prime and pass herself off as a trader/pirate. All resources were provided for such an undertaking, as information of the Cardassian Order as well as its military and political leadership since the upheaval of Gul Dukat were deemed high priority, especially giving the tides of war endured with the Dominion. Starfleet Command felt it was essential to maintain a vigil watch over our renewed allies. Information provided by Marine Captain Chance proved useful in providing strategic counter measure should another war take place. Keep your friends close, your enemies closer! After three years of being undercover, Marine Captain Chance was recalled and reassigned.

2379 - Operation Windmill: Major Alexandria Chance while serving as Chief Intelligence and 2nd Officer aboard the USS Miranda, lead one of many away teams into a hostile planetary environment to rescue settlers sighted for termination from alien raiders. Major Alexandria Chance received a serious wound to her left shoulder protecting a settler from sniper attack, her attempt failed and the settler’s life was lost, but her bravery is so noted as reported by other team members who witnessed and recanted the account. The planet in question was not a member of the Federation of Planets, but deemed necessary to have been under observation giving the nature of its location and feasible future consideration for application.

2384 – Operation Valkrye: Once again, Lieutenant Chance’s skills were in need to perform a sensitive operation. Commanding officer of a six person specialized team, LCol. Chance leads her designated team deep into Klingon territory to complete three main objectives. Substantiate, locate and collect sensitive material of a rumored new bio-weapon being developed by scientists deep within the heart of the Klingon Empire. Intel from sources indicated with the fractured Klingon alliance from within, has the Klingon Empire oblivious to affairs outside of the walls of the Klingon Council. It was speculated that the Duras family was again at the heart of the matter, even after Captain Jean Luc Pickard’s repeated efforts unmasking them for traitors to the Empire itself. Secondly, LCol. Chance and her team were to destroy the facility if said rumors were found to be true, she was given cart blanch on this matter. Lastly, extract any scientist or asset that could aid the Federation in dealing with the matter of bio genetics, any refusal was deemed as hostile and perceived as a future threat, the individual in question was to be without hesitation, eliminated. The mission was carried out with marginal success, only three members of the team returned as it was nothing more than a trap laid out by new unknown faction. In Lieutenant Colonel Chance’s report, she outlined that there was definitely a new threat to the Federation, one that even posses greater risk than the Orion Syndicate. SFI is taking the matter seriously and has put together a new task force to begin investigation and collect data on the new perceived threat to the Federation.

LIKES: Lasagna anyone! Alexandria as a child grew quite fond for her step mothers, seven cheese lasagna, even though a replicator comes a close second, Alexandria will indulge herself in a large plate of the decadent Italian dish. She also enjoys a good game of cat and mouse when sitting in the cockpit of a fighter, its finding any takers to play the game. Oh, and let’s not forget a woman's best friend.... CHOCOLATE!

DISLIKES: Alexandria has a soul retching dislike for men who feel they are god’s gift to women. Men who come off over confident, overbearing, and simply down right hung up on themselves.

STRENGTHS/TALENTS: Alexandria possess cat like reflexes giving her an added edge in her skills as a pilot, as well as an Intel Operative, it is believed to be derived from her Romulan genetic make up, even though she is only one quarter Romulan.

LIMITATIONS: Alexandria has a natural fear of spiders; she cannot tolerate any species of the hairy legged kind. On a personal note, Alexandria has a fear of self limitation, she pushes herself daily to exceed in her everyday norm.

SPECIAL ABILITIES: Alexandria posses an uncanny ability to react to a situation that has yet to happen without using any sort of telekinesis or mind-reading, it is considered her unusual "gift" or played off as "woman's intuition".

AMBITIONS: To simply excel in life, in her duty as a Starfleet Marine and as an Intel Operative.

QUIRKS: Alexandria always follows a strict regime of making her bed first thing from vacating it, followed by a rigorous regime in the gym and a jog in the holosuite, followed by chow and a quick half hour in the simulator to keep up and hone her personal flying skills.

HOBBIES / INTERESTS: Alexandria rarely socializes outside the confines of her immediate peers, preferring instead the comfort of self seclusion hence her primary interest is literature. She also enjoys velocity racquetball, fencing/sword play, and jogs daily in the early a.m. solo in the holosuite. Due to her upbringing, Alexandria enjoys playing the piano and most wind instruments, but this she keeps private in her quarters.

PERSONALITY: Alexandria is very self-conscious and is unsure of her appearance as a woman; as a result, she tends to be extremely introverted and soft-spoken when among people other than her crew/watch mates. Her self doubted beauty however has led to some interesting close encounters with relationships, but they faltered due to her inability to commit. Alexandria can be a very head strong woman, a trait her father constantly reminds her was gained from her Romulan mother.

Alexandria does however have a dark sense of humor and, once you get to know her on a personal level, just don't end up being on the receiving end! Alexandria has strong attachments to traditional or aristocratic matters and family. In situations where a normal reaction may be to become excited, Alexandria appears completely placid, even though this appears to be her normal personality.

Alexandria has a secreted passion that seems to emanate from within her very being and is very dedicated to anything she does. If you gain her respect, you will be treated with kindness and may even catch a glimpse of her rumored and seldom seen smile. Very few outsiders get to hear Alexandria's infectious laughter, because Alexandria is all business when it comes to her ambitions and duty.
