This article is a brief essay on Biological Adaptation among various sentient species.
How have various species adapted? Here is an outline of some of the more common species.

Andorians
The most obvious feature of an Andorian are the antennae on the top of the head. These antennae are actually an extension of the nasal cavity, giving Andorians an excellent sense of smell as well as heightened sensitivity to changes in air pressure and temperature. Their home planet (Andor) is very dry and this adaptation probably aided in finding water. They also have white hair and blue skin (See Bolian).
Betazoids
Betazoids contain an extra region in their brains called the paracortex. This additional region gives them their telepathic abilities. Betazoids also have very large pupils. This supports the old saying that states "The eyes are the windows to the soul".
Bolians
Bolians have blue skin. Blue pigmentation would strongly reflects blue light (Probably the color of the Bolian sun). Blue is also in the higher energy region of the visible spectrum, probably protecting Bolians more effectively against certain forms of radiation. (See also Andorians for skin color).
Cardassians
With their lizard like appearance, Cardassians are probably cold blooded. Most seem to enjoy a warm damp environment. Their prominent neck muscles maintain the upright posture of the neck. This could imply a weaker than normal spine.
Ferengi
Ferengi have many characteristics that distinguish them from other species. They have ascending ribs, upper and lower lungs, and four lobed brains that seem to block telepathy. They also have enlarged ears. Like many species with enlarged ears, the home planet of the Ferengi has a thin atmosphere. Larger ears may also act as a cooling mechanism, to dissipate body heat.
Klingons
Klingons are born hunters. They have an excellent sense of smell to track their prey. They also have their vital organs duplicated in their bodies to fight longer and harder. This system is called brak'lul.
Vorta
The Vorta were originally tree dwelling ape-like creatures. They assisted a changeling who promised to make them one of the most powerful races in the galaxy. The have poor eyesight, excellent hearing and a minimal sense of taste. They are also immune to many forms of poison. Due to genetic manipulation from the Founders, it is unclear which of these characteristics are natural and which are engineered.
Vulcans
The most distinctive feature of the Vulcan people are their pointed ears. The ears have evolved due to the hot, dry conditions and thinner atmosphere on Vulcan. A less obvious adaptation is the second set of eyelids that was probably developed to shield the eyes against the Vulcan sun.
