The third child of the late Duke of Warrington, David has put aside his title and is currently serving as Chief Engineer on the Luna-class USS Oberon (NCC-80111).
[edit] BACKGROUND
David was the third born to the Duke and Duchess of Warrington, England, a family steeped in history and 'Royal Blood', though the titles were now no more than honorary reminders of the past, and only brought out on special civic occasions.
David's older brother, the eldest son and Earl of Northwhich were only 4 years older than David, and his sister, Clara less than a year. All three of them thought very little of the titles bestowed to the Family. Their parents however were very traditionalist and kept to the pomp and dignitaries, must to the annoyance and often inconvenience of their children.
Shortly after David's 16th Birthday their parents were killed in a boating accident, leaving Harry to take over the large family estate. He settled into the role very well and took a far more relaxed approach to the family position. The deaths really hadn't bothered David as much as he would have expected, he had never been very close to his parents, and they were all mostly raised by the nanny.
When David turned 18 he left the Family to join Starfleet, leaving his title of Lord behind him. Unsure what he wanted to do for a career he took a wild stab and picked Engineering, a choice that fit him well, he settled into the Academy quickly, making only occasional visits home to visit his siblings, and to attend his brother’s wedding.
His roommate, Jason Karinson was the one who sparked David's interest in old Earth aviation, taking David with him on many flights on the holodeck, in everything from old biplanes to the more recent hyper-sonic aircraft and even some of the early attempts at space flight.
When David graduated the academy he was posted to the USS Pipedale as a junior engineer. The Pipedale was an old Excelsior II class starship, brought out of mothballs to act as a support and recovery vessel during the Dominion war and kept in service afterwards until the fleet regained its strength.
David found life on the Pipedale pretty boring, as the ship was only acting as a support vessel it very rarely got involved in interesting tasks, mainly supply runs; however it did have the occasional in the field repair mission, sent out to assist ships with problems.
It was during one of these ad-hoc repair missions that David gained his scar. They were repairing an old freighter that had been having difficulties with its plasma distribution network. During the repair a power overload caused the plasma conduit David was working on to explode, through David into a bulkhead. While his injuries were minor he was knocked cold, he landed on his comm. badge that had been knocked off in the explosion. Rapidly heated by the intense plasma fire the comm. badge burned an imprint into David's arm. Luckily David was rescued from the fire within minutes and spent several days in sickbay.
Part way into his second year on the ship David was called into the Chief's office and given his performance review. As usual he was overly critical of his own performance, and was even more surprised when the Chief informed him that the CO had approved his recommendation for promotion. The new pip came with transfer orders to the USS Oberon to take up the role of Assistant Chief Engineer. A prospect that again filled David with pride, but also with worry.
