Devon Marks

Devon was born to two career Starfleet Officers, Liam Marks was a human, Starfleet Science Officer and Dana Monty-Marks was a Betazoid Special Ops Marine. Dana retired shortly after discovering she was pregnant, the couple bought a house in Brisbane, Australia and several months later Devon Lindsay Marks was born. For the first few years of her life Devon lived planet side in Australia, while Commander Marks worked out of Starfleet Science Headquarters. However shortly before Devon’s third birthday he accepted the post as Chief Science Officer aboard the Nebula Class USS Archer.

When Devon was 7 Orion Pirates caught the Archer off guard. Devon was separated from her parents and like most children her age she ran and hid. The trauma seemed to jolt her telepathic and empathic abilities, and ever since they have been surprisingly strong for a ‘’halfer’’. With the Archer damaged the family moved to the Galaxy Class USS Cape Breton, stationed on the Romulan border.

While Devon did well in school she never seemed to have the knack for the Sciences that her father always hoped she would. When Devon was 12 her parents had a second child, another daughter Marika Sarah Marks. Shortly after Marika's birth the family again moved, to the USS Princeton, a Nova Class vessel where Liam was made the CO.

Devon was very reserve in her teens, she had learned to be use to rapid changes and she didn't let many people in. When Devon was 16 her father accepted a position at Starfleet Command, the family returned to Earth, this time settling in London. Despite her trouble with the Sciences, something it was soon discovered her younger sister didn't have, Devon graduated High School with honours and was accepted into Starfleet Academy in 2373, just as the Dominion War broke out.

Her first year in General Studies, suddenly seemed to take a very tactical turn, Starfleet was pushing it future officers to be Tactician over Scientists, it's doctors were being trained to handle lost limbs over the common cold while its shrinks focused on PTSD over marriage issues. Seeing the fear in the eyes of their experienced professors lead many cadets to drop out, while the number of enlistees increased, weather it be to defend there home, or go in search of a fight.

Devon chose to follow her mother’s footsteps taking to the Marines in her second year. She was injured in the Breen attack on Head Quarters, almost losing her arm when a beam feel on it. Luckily see was beamed aboard one of the rescue ships. After recovery and the nearly month off the entire Academy took she returned to duty with a new sense of determination. Specializing in Intelligence in her third year, which she took at Alpha Centauri.

It was during this year that she also found a talent for Covert Surveillance, Devon had a knack for getting in, remaining unseen and getting out without anyone knowing she was there. Her abilities and Betazoid ability, along with her mom’s rep were enough to attract the attention of Special Ops, and she was recruited for her fourth year, which she did on Pluto. She also seemed to have a photographic memory, and a very good recall. Devon could quickly memorize names and faces and get into a situation, keep her cover straight, carry out the objective and get out without anyone being the wiser.

After graduating the academy Second Lieutenant Marks was assigned as the Force Recon Platoon Commander for a Platoon based out off Timerek III. The Timerek system was colonized by Starfleet 200 years ago, however it was only in the last 50 that it grew and took on more important roles. With a population over 2 million the planet hosted three main Starfleet facilities. In addition to a mothballed Reserve Fleet a marine Garrison and Recon training Camp were found here. Like Marks' Platoon, Timerek Garrison was home to a Brigade and multiple Recon units and Hazard Teams.

However despite a year here, Marks saw little actually combat as the planet was close to the Federations Core, making deployment from there illogical for front line action. So in 2378 Mark's accepted the post as Weapons Specialist on a Hazard Team, aboard the Nebula Class USS Mohave (NCC-53413-C). The ship patrolled the new Cardassian border solving boarder disputes, assisting colonies and reminding people the Federation was keeping an eye on things.

The Hazard team most commonly saw action on small backwater colonies and planets where two groups of settlers had decided a miniature war was the best way to solve there problems. In mid 2379 when a Tellerite with an itchy trigger finger caused the death of the Hazard Teams CO Marks was promoted to First Lieutenant and made team XO while the current XO stepped up into the Command position. She remained here until another promotion in 2380 removed her from the ship. Devon knew something was up with the promotion to Captain after less then a year, what was up, was an undercover mission to Romulus.

Her mission was mainly one of Recon, stay out of site and keep an eye on the Romulan Fleet. Despite actions taken by Section 31 during the war, the Romulan Empire was the only real threat to the Federation in the post war years. In mid 2381, a mouthy Commodore's daughter was kidnapped on Romulus. The Commodore Gilis ordered all assets in the area to rescue his daughter, since this would have blown her cover, Marks made no attempt to do so. A few months later Marks was compromised, when another Intelligence Agent flipped and sold out multiple undercovers to the Tal Shiar.

Marks was tortured for several weeks before she was rescued by SWORD 3, while they saved her life, it was too late for her sight and her eyes were lost to her. Six months leave gave the marine time to recovery from her injuries, adjust to her new ocular implants and receive extensive debriefing. Despite accomplishing her 'actual' mission she was busted down a rank by now Rear Admiral Gilis who ordered the rescue of his daughter be put above multiple classified missions that he didn't even know about. Marks was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, the first to return from Romulus after he had some how earned a second star, and no one higher up was willing to step up for the young marine.

Lieutenant Marks returned to duty as the Reconnaissance Specialist for SWORD Team 3, the Commander, Colonel David Brewster, had been on the team when it rescued Marks and he like the young officer, seeing her potential and who she acted under pressure. In less then 3 months she had returned to the rank of Captain and the Teams XO, much to Gilis' annoyance when he found out.

In 2383 SWORD 3 was on deployment in the Badlands when they came across the USS Mohave, the ship had been damaged and much of it's crew was dead. Colonel Brewster took command from the inexperienced Lieutenant who had been the ranking officer. SWORD 3 filled the gaps in the ships command structure, with Marks dawning a yellow uniform and taking over in the Tactical Role.

Sixth months later when the ship returned to Space dock the team disembarked while the Mohave was set for decommissioning, as the cost to repair its damages outweigh the usefulness of the aging ship.

Captain Mark's was assigned as the Commander of the Hazard Team aboard the Prometheus Class USS Lynx (NCC-79981) from 2383 until 2385 where she took over her the position as Special Forces Commander of Dorvan 5, officially making her it's Marine Commander, while unofficially putting her in charge of the SWORD 7 team. Following this assignment she was promoted to Major and put on classified detached duty.

Following her assignment she was assigned to the USS Bonaventure (NCC-26138) as Intelligence Officer for 18 months before reassignment to Outpost Sierra VI as Strategic Operations Officer.

Physical Description
Marks is of average height and build for a Human / Betazoid hybrid. She lost her eyes in mid 2381 while undercover on Romulus, as a result she has occualar implants in both eyes.

Ocular Implants
In 2383 her implants were replaced with the newest model. These have two modes, in passive mode they provide 20:20 vision in the visual spectrum, basically perfect normal sight. Active mode allows the wear to exploit some of the more unique advantages, such as high power magnification and the ability to see most portions of the EM spectrum, however if used beyond the Infrared or Ultraviolet range, it can disorienting and increase headaches. With the training to understand the reading they can also be used to track pulse and perspriation to determine if someone is lying. However, headaches are still a side effect cause by the direct translation of data into the brian's visual cortex.
