Exploring the Wolf was the 6th Bismarck mission and ran from July 30 – October 13, 2007.
[edit] Summary
Rear Admiral Addison Black is transported aboard the Bismarck to Deep Space Nine where new acting captain Commander Kevin Michaels assumes command from Commander Fields. Michaels, a science officer, comes across as arrogant and rude. He orders the Bismarck to depart for Tharadonda, where they will rendezvous with some vessels to explore the trinary Wolf-Rayet Star cluster. Rhodes meets his new commander, who doesn’t impress him favourably. Commander Taylor Fields thinks that that – with this new CO – it will be a long mission. Connor Rhodes, seeking input on how to improve his department, asks CPO Fallon for advice, who surprisingly suggests “shuttle flights.” Commander Michaels selects Lieutenant Gan, Head of Astrometrics and Stellar Cartography, to be the new acting Chief Science Officer for this mission. Bismarck makes orbit around Tharadonda, and Fields makes contact with First Minister Aram Karet about the Keralen scientists they are to pick up. Langdon asks Fields about returning to duty, and she promises to take it up with the new captain.
Connor returns to the bridge, has to chastise his deputy for criticizing the captain in public, and prepares for the Kerelin's arrival. Langdon, bored in his quarters, tries to keep himself occupied. Pallett is annoyed by Marines being assigned to guard Engineering without him being notified, and cuts power to the Marine commander's office. Thompson ignores the prank and has his Marines train in the dark. Commander Michaels has a briefing, in which he chastises Pallett for his prank, and orders Langdon into the brig. Serege has his staff carry out Michaels' orders to move Langdon to the brig. The crew talk negatively in the mess hall about the new CO. Fields visits Langdon in the brig and assigns him to research the Kerelins while he is in there. Langdon, contemplated his uselessness and considering resigning from Starfleet, is met by Security who are to escort him to the brig. In the brig, Langdon begins researching the Kerelins, and suspects that Bismarck is being led into a trap.
Pallett argues with the new CO about getting his access codes back. The Keralen scientists beam aboard the Bismarck. Kane, still somewhere on an intelligence mission, secretly hails Hughes to get some data files. Thompson and Pallett meet, having a heated discussion haggling over jurisdiction and communication between Engineering and marines. The formation departs for and reaches the nebula, secretly being followed by vessels of Naols Nivra, who is still seeking revenge and plans to destroy the Bismarck.
Michaels calls Fields into his ready room and criticizes her performance. The enemy vessels have implanted a virus aboard Bismarck ’s computer, which is starting to experience some malfunctions. A marine training program on the holodeck shuts down, locking some Marines inside. Engineering scrambles to make repairs. Thompson assumes that it was one of Pallett’s pranks, and attacks him, but is arrested by security. The power to Langdon’s cell fails, and he goes in search of action. The bridge crew relocates to Marine CIC after the computer virus causes life support on Deck One to fail. Enroute to the CIC, Rhodes gets an update from LT (JG) Lorelei Serin (npc) in Sensor Ops, which indicates that there is a vessel in their vicinity, and learns that comms with Computer Control have been lost.
Langdon, out of the brig, alerts security to prepare for possible boarders, and sends a message to command to leave this area of space as soon as possible. He asks for his rank insignia back. Lt Kell Damar, from the Da Vinci, is assigned as the new Chief Science officer after the former CSO was killed in an explosion. The Keralen ships attack. The two security guards in the brig with Langdon are injured, so he takes one of their phasers and heads to CIC to help. Commander Michaels is killed by boarders. New Science Officer Lt Kell Damar joins the ship. He takes the visiting Keralen scientists into custody. The Bismarck crew counterattack the boarders and retake their ship.
