Jacen Parami

A Starfleet Officer of Human and Betazoid origin, Commander Jacen Parami is currently serving as the Strategic Operations Officer at Starbase 326. He has served as a Fighter Pilot and as an operative for Starfleet Intelligence in the past, as well as serving aboard starships in Security and Command. He is married to Yorzi Edden-Parami, and has two children: Alexander and Takara.

[edit] BACKGROUND

Jacen was born on Earth, and raised predominantly by his grandparents, while his parents - a Freighter Captain and a Federation Diplomat - spent much of their time offworld. Jacen occasionally went with them on various visits to exotic worlds, inspiring him to ultimately join Starfleet.

After a few years serving aboard his father's freighter - the SS Parallax - Jacen trained as a Fighter Pilot at Starfleet Academy, serving aboard the USS Galacta during the Federation's wars with the Klingons and the Dominion. Both of Jacen's parents became involved in the Maquis resistance during that period, and Jacen was placed under covert observation by Starfleet Security as a potential terrorist sympathiser. Sadly, both were killed; his mother by the Cardassians, and his father years later by the Jem'Hadar.

The Galacta was was decommissioned following the war, and Jacen returned to Starfleet Academy to train as a Tactical Officer. He joined the crew of the USS Zodiac, rising quickly to the position of Chief of Security. He retained that role when much of the senior staff was reassigned to the Sovereign-class USS Zealandia.

He remained aboard until 2378, when Starfleet Intelligence recruited him for fake a defection from Starfleet, in order to combat a suspected counter-Federation thread within the fleet. He later served a prison sentence at a penal facility in New Zealand in order to maintain mission secrecy, but has since been publiclly exonerated.

Jaden married his Galacta co-pilot and Academy sweetheart Yorzi Edden after his release, and together the two had twins: Alexander and Takara. Jacen briefly served as an Intelligence Analyst aboard the USS Neptune and the USS Bismarck before settling down for a family life; Starfleet Intelligence had other ideas, however. Called up for a number of undercover assignments, he eventually saved the life of the Captain of the USS Edison, and was offered a position aboard, returning to flight status and bringing his family with him.

Jacen briefly commanded a Starfleet contigent on New Deridous as a special assignment after the survivors of Deridous IV were assigned there. The assignment never became permanent however, after Yorzi insisted they move their family to a safe and more stable place for them to grow up. Jacen grudgingly agreed, and took a role working a desk job as Chief of Station Security aboard Starbase 326; he was rescued from that monotony after two years by a brief stint as Executive Officer aboard the USS Cambrian, which was unfortunately cut short when Starfleet Intelligence called him up for a classified assignment. After its completion he returned to Starbase 326, his time as the Strategic Operations Officer.

After three years on the station however, an incident convinced Yorzi that even a Starbase wasn't completely safe. She reluctantly agreed to let Jacen return to service on a starship, and even went as far as returning into uniform herself. They joined the crew of the USS Bismarck, with Jacen serving as Chief Operations and Flight Control Officer.

The first character created by Jason Atkins, Jacen Parami went through Tango Fleet Academy in the Summer of 2001, and moved directly to the USS Zodiac sim, remaining aboard when that sim became the USS Zealandia. After a haitus from Tango Fleet he returned to join the USS Bismarck, and served aboard the USS Edison, New Deridous, and the USS Cambrian (briefly) before finally settling down back on the Bismarck.
