Commander Jillur Meru currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Oberon (NCC-80111).
[edit] BACKGROUND
Meru was born to a Bajoran policeman and Betazoid sociologist who was studying Bajoran religion and philosophy.
She and her family were caught in the Occupation when she was a child, and went into hiding with many other families. Her father joined the Rebellion and survived through it, rising through the ranks of the Bajoran militia to become a major. As a lieutenant, he even served a brief tour on Deep Space Nine in Odo's security force, even though this was long after Meru had left for the Academy.
Her world had been so small prior to her experiences at the Academy, she was amazed at the galaxy around her, and took every opportunity to culture herself, although she remained steadfast to her mixed heritage.
Meru served Starfleet through the Dominion War on the Wellington, a Nebula-class vessel that had Bern refitted as a reconnaissance and medical vessel. After her final tour there, she decided it was best to take a break, and so she took a fellowship with the Betazed Psychological Institute, teaching and learning there for a year.
Afterwards, she returned as a lieutenant commander to Starfleet and was assigned to the Archer as Chief Medical Officer, a backwater science vessel. A big change from her previous work, Meru grew considerably there, expanding her scientific knowledge and ability outside of medicine, outside of biology and chemistry. Working on the refitted Oberth-class vessel allowed her to gain insights in physics, astronomy, mathematics, and even engineering. It was also at this time that she tool the Bridge Officer Exam and rose to the rank of commander.
Eventually, the Archer was decommissioned, and Meru put in to go right back out to explore. When she was assigned to the Oberon, she didn't know what to think. The Archer had studied backwater Federation territory, and was never so far out. However, she was excited to embark on the new adventure.

Physical Discription:
Meru is a strong-looking woman, not that she is
physically built, although she is in good shape, she walks with
determination and confidence. She wears shoulder-length hair, often in
a bun while she's working, it's upkeep generally is an indicator of
her anxiety level. Her eyes are purely Betazoid: deep, dark, and pitch
black. Her Bajoran nose ridge is somewhat diminutive compared to full-
blooded Bajorans. She is never seen without her religious earring.
