Lieutenant Colonel John Thomas Powell Harrison (born 12 October 2347) commonly known as John Powell is currently the Battalion Commander aboard Starbase 418 in orbit of Delphi Ardu IV. He is also the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion. He is in command of Starfleet Marine operations within Delphi Ardu and neighboring Federation-controlled star systems.

John Thomas Powell was born in Macon, Georgia on October 12, 2347 to parents Commander Geena Powell Harrison (nee Malone) and Marine Captain Thomas John Powell. Before John was born his father, Marine Captain Thomas Powell was killed in action during the Cardassian-Federation War during the Setlik III massacre. His father was a platoon commander aboard the USS Rutledge. Thomas Powell died in action honorably while providing suppressive fire for Starfleet Security personnel assisting them in saving Federation colonists from Cardassian shock troops.

John's mother Commander Geena Powell Harrison is a career Starfleet Officer currently serving aboard the Sovereign-class vessel, the USS Rokossovsky NCC-73834 as it's Executive Officer. She gave birth to John while visiting her parents in Macon, Georgia after receiving the news about her husband's untimely death. He was born a month and a half premature. He remained under hospital care until he was eight months old. He was released into his mother's care.

Five months after Powell's release from being hospitalized his mother returned to active duty and was reassigned to the Excelsior-class USS Philadelphia NCC-53098. His mother remarried to Commander Lee Harrison the Philadelphia's Chief of Security ten years later. Commander Harrison adopted John as his own son. The new family would relocate to San Francisco where his father was offered an instructor position at Starfleet Academy. His mother took her law certification to become a JAG Officer and was stationed at Starfleet Judge Advocate General's Headquarters.

On his seventeenth birthday John Powell enlist in Starfleet enrolled into Starfleet Academy. On his application, he applied as John Thomas Powell. He studied along side with the USS Bonaventure NCC-26138's current Commanding Officer Captain Carter Pierce Boone in first general studies and second year Security Studies at Starfleet Academy.

The two young men entered a physical altercation resulted in both being suspended from Starfleet Academy upon disciplinary review. His adoptive father Commander Lee Harrison who received tenure a year earlier spoke to the review committee not to drop Powell out of Starfleet. The review panel agreed on the condition that he changes his focus of study at Starfleet Academy.

John choose to follow in his biological father's footsteps to become a Starfleet Marine. Powell's Marine training reassigned him to Marine officer training facility at Camp Pendelton specializing in light infantry. Powell graduated a year earlier then his fellow Marine Cadets in 2370. He would report to Fort Hood for counterterrorism and counterinsurgency training for six months until deployment to the Cardassian-Federation dematerialized zone to combat the Maquis in cooperation to Cardassian shock troops.

Powell personally held prejudice for the unit responsible behind his father's death. Powell was verbally reprimanded by the Commanding Officer of the 22nd Light Infantry Expeditionary Force after entering a physical altercation. The Cardassian shock trooper refused to press charges. After the incident he kept this prejudice to himself, he eventually had a new-found respect for the Cardassian people after working closely with Cardassian counter-terrorist forces, old prejudices resurfaced after the Cardassian Union fell and it's new allegiance to the Dominion.

Powell was promoted and commended for his actions during the war on terrorism in the Cardassian-Federation Dematerialized Zone. He received the promotion to First Lieutenant and assumed the role of Assistant Platoon Commander. His predecessor First Lieutenant Domingo Chavez was killed in action on M-Class Dorvan V planet where Native American Maquis resistance fighters refused into forced relocation from their homes.

John remained in this capacity throughout the remainder of the war against the Dominion. He received a field promotion to the rank of Marine Captain and be made Platoon Commander after the field promotion of his predecessor Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Potter who was killed in the final days of the Dominion War. He took part in various peacekeeping operations before returning to Earth for Command training. His superiors found that he had a talent for military leadership in the field. Upon his completion of training, he was promoted to the rank of Major. He would continue his assignment on Earth at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas until being placed into Intelligence Training at Camp Bridgeport. After training he would be reassigned to the 71st Intelligence Company as Assistant Company Commander. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and Company Commander of the 104th Light Infantry Company operating within proximity the renewed Cardassian-Federation Dematerialized Zone. He would put in a transfer and be placed in command of the multipurpose battalion on Starbase 418.
