Kell was the former Chief Science Officer on the USS Bismarck.
[edit] BACKGROUND
Born in the small town of Minsana to K’Ren & Trel Dentin. Kell from the age of about 6 showed a large interest in science and animals. At the age of 10 he convinced his parents to take a vacation to Earth. During the trip the family visited Starfleet Command, and StarFleet Academy. He knew after much thought that he wanted to join StarFleet. At the age of 14 he told his parents he wanted to attend Starfleet Academy we he turned 16. His parents refused to allow him to attend StarFleet, due to the fact that if he left at such an early age he would not be eligible to receive a symbiont .
His parents did agree to allow him to attend the Academy after his joining, which was supposed to have occurred when he was around 26. At the are of 18, Kell and his family took a vacation to Risa. However, on the way to the vacation planet a fellow Trill, Letal Demar, became severely ill and died. The ship, already far from Trill, did not have the adequate medical equipment to keep the symbiont alive and the ship was still to far from Risa. The Symbiosis Commission, reluctantly, granted permission fro Demar and Kell to be joined. The joining went well and Kell and his parents quickly returned to Trill to finish the joining process.
After the Symbiosis Commission cleared him, he quickly applied to Starfleet Academy. He was accepted as a Science Cadet, Demar's pervious hosts played a large part on this due to the fact that several had been scientists. He did well in Science but did poor in mathematics. In his forth and final year at the academy he took the proper tests and was allowed to attend the prestigious Tango Fleet Academy for his cadet cruise.
Upon graduation from Tango Fleet Academy, he was assigned to the USS Edison as the Assistant Chief Science Officer and 'Acting' Chief of Stellar Sciences. His first mission on the Edison involved removing a Breen Spy and stopping a Breen weapon. The mission took an unexpected turn when a Quantum Compression Vortex opened and the Edison was pulled into an alternate universe in which the Federation had fallen to the Dominion and a race call the Whyatti. The time spent in the alternate universe changed Kell, he wasn't the same happy go lucky, naive, Trill he used to be before.
After returning to the proper universe, the USS Edison went to Earth to undergo repairs. During this time he and the current CSO of the Edison at the time, Lieutenant Commander Nexx Dunkain, went for a friendly dinner. Both ended up drunk and spent the night with each other.
Guilt and shame, coupled with the stress and memories from the alternate universe, led Kell to the decision to take a short leave and re-cooperate. After one moth Kell requested a re-assignment, even though he still hadn’t worked out all of his physiological problems. He was assigned to the USS Casey as the Assistant Chief Science Officer.
Several months later he was promoted to Chief Science Officer and then later to full Lieutenant. In late 2380 the USS Casey was de-commissioned and Kell was assigned the Deridous IV colony as the Chief Science Officer. After several months at Deridous, he made the decision to leave Starfleet, tired of dealing with the oddities, such as the two alienate universes he had visited inside of a year, that seemed to follow him around and the still fresh in his mind experience from the Edison still weighed heavily on him. He opted for a leave of absence instead of directly resigning his commission as Starfleet objected to a full resignation.
He retuned home to Trill and secured a high level job at the Trill Science Ministry. He worked there for nearly 3 years before Starfleet pulled him back into the fleet, citing that his unique experiences where needed in the fleet. Kell objected to what he believed was a ridicules reason. However, in the end there was little he could do to prevent his re-activation.
