Lujan Serege is the Commanding Officer of Starbase 418.
[edit] BACKGROUND
Personal History
Lujan Edward Serege was born in Palm Springs, California on Earth on the 16th day of October 2356. His decision to join Starfleet was in due part to the fact that he was never close to his father. He wanted to get as far away from him as possible and believed that Starfleet was the only way. Initially, he was going to enlist, but when his recruiter saw his grades from school, he suggested he take the Starfleet Academy entrance exam. He surprised himself when he passed on his first attempt. While at the academy, he met a wonderful young lady by the name of Victoria Simms with whom he had a romantic relationship. Originally, they were to wed after graduating from the Academy, but because Lujan was assigned to a starship, the wedding was put on hold until he returned. During his time on the Epimetheus the love, he and Victoria shared, dwindled. When the Epimetheus struck a cloaked mine, Lujan returned to Earth before his next assignment. While he was there, his relationship ended when she could not handle the fact that Lujan could have died. Lujan didn't take the break-up very easy.
While on Earth, he drank himself into oblivian and the owner of the bar pressed charges against him when he refused to leave and broke a mirror on the wall after he threw a beer bottle. He was charged with drunk and disorderly, but because he was willing to pay for the mirror, the charges were dropped. He left for his next assignment, Epsilon Outpost 11 near the Federation-Romulan-Klingon Border and the Azure Nebula. While there Lujan continued his study of warfare, both past and present. Unfortunately, the routine of the station began to take it's toll on Lujan and, even after a promotion, he requested a transfer to a starship. While on the USS Hanau, he fell in love with Theresa Lado, one of the nurses aboard. Sadly though, she was killed in an attack, by pirates trying to steal cargo from the ship's in which the Hanau was protecting. Lujan did not take her death easily. After a few months, he decided that a transfer was best. It was granted and was subsequently assigned the USS Bismarck as the Chief of Security and Tactical. He was promoted to 2382 to Lieutenant. In 2383 he was promoted again to Lieutenant Commander and then to Commander and Second Officer. During the Keralen War, he was given temporary command of the USS Halley. After the destruction of the the Bismarck-B, he was reassigned to the Sovereign class Bismarck-C as the Chief of Security/Tactical and Second Officer. During his time of the Bismarck, he had a one night stand with an astrometrics officer named Kandi Bergman, and she became pregnant. During the mission he was captured and tortured by enemy forces, and that influenced his decision to move to DS19 and work as the Aide-de-Camp to Admiral Vaughn. He later decided that he wanted a new position, and him and his now girlfriend decided to move to Starbase 418 to assume the position of Chief of Security/Tactical. Upon arrival he learned that he had been given the position of Executive Officer.
On 11 July 2385, Kandi gave birth to a son. They named him Charles, after Lujan's father. The following day, he proposed to Kandi, but she quickly changed the subject and never provided an answer. Eventually, though, she said yes and they are planning to wed on July 5th 2386.
During his engagement to Kandi, he was ordered to take charge of a diplomatic mission to Janera. This would be his first diplomatic assignment and he hoped he would succeed because he knew that if he didn't, a planet within Federation space would fall to the Klingon Empire. He was relieved to know it wasn't the Klingon's fault for their aggression towards Janera, but after the death of 12 Starfleet Officer and crew, he fealt extremely guilty.
Starfleet Career History
During his time at Star Fleet Academy, Cadet Serege performed remarkably well during his physical and military training. He was always in the top 10% of his class at weapons marksmanship. After his first year, he spent the summer break at Camp Pendleton on Earth. While there he decided that he wanted to become a marine, but his wish to fly threw space on a starship drove him to change his mind and study security and tactical. During his second and third summer breaks, he served aboard the training ship's USS Speculator and the USS Hawkeye, respectively. As for his studies, there were always military oriented. He studied ancient wars and took a course in weapons development. Upon graduating from the Academy, he was offered a chance to go to the Special Operations School, but declined in favor of going to space.
His first appointment was as a junior security officer aboard the USS Epimetheus (Renaissance Class). While patrolling the areas between Breen and Federation space, the ship struck a cloaked mine, left over from the Dominion War. The ship was badly damaged and went to Starbase 514 for repairs. While there, Ensign Serege was transferred to Epsilon Outpost 11 near the Romulan-Klingon-Federation border.
While there, he served as a junior tactical officer. Because of the station's size, isolationism is commonplace. While he was there, his superior was transferred to Starbase 213 and Lujan was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and appointed as the senior tactical officer of the outpost. A few months later, he himself was transferred to the USS Hanau.
For the next two years, Lieutenant Junior Grade Serege and the USS Hanau was assigned escort duty of relief ship's to and from Cardassian space. Though mostly uneventful, the ship did encounter pirate ship's intent on getting their hands on the vital supplies the cargo ships carried.
Over the past few years Serege has risen through the ranks attaining the rank of Commander and the position of Chief Sec Tac officer. In recent months his command abilities have earned the additional duties of Second Officer. During the later stages of the Keralen War he also Commanded the USS Halley.
During a shore leave following the transfer to the new USS Bismarck C, Serege impregnated a women. He requested a transfer to the Station, Deep Space 19. Captain Kane pulled some strings and managed to get him assigned to that station as the Aide-de-Camp to Admiral Michael Vaughn, as well as the Senior Starfleet Liaison and Senior Tactical Advisor. He was then reassigned to Starbase 418 as the Executive Officer.
On 27 June 2385, Lujan was promoted to Captain and appointed the station's Commanding Officer.
On 12 January 2386 Lujan was arrested for ordering the black-ops mission to the Deloras Colony to steal medical information. He was found guilty, but because of the circumstances surrounding the order, he was only reprimanded.
