[edit] Introduction
There is a story, its been retold to Marines, by Marines for years, of a moment so touching, it brought the toughest of Marines to tears.
It was some time ago, during a time of war, and it seemed that there was no hope remaining. A high ranking General visited the base hospital, to personally present Purple Hearts and other awards to those Marines that had given so much. One particular Marine, I believe it was a Lance Corporal if memory serves, was one of those recipients.
Hooked up to every sort of medical equipment known to man just to stay alive, the young man could barely see, and was fighting for his life. He didn't know who had entered the room until he felt the four stars on the man’s uniform, and immediately tried to say something.
Hindered by weakness and medical machines, a nurse quickly passed him a piece of paper and pen. With weak hands, that Lance Corporal wrote simply, "Semper Fi." Nothing else needed to be said.

[edit] Mission and Vision
Mission
The official mission of the Starfleet Marine Corps was established by the Starfleet Marine Corps First Commandant, General Nathan Allen Lejeune, descendant of the 13th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, after his office was created by the Marine Corps Act of 2342.
"Marines are trained, organized and equipped for offensive deployment and as a “force in readiness""
As such, the Sixth Fleet Marine Corps, has established the following as its mission statement,
- Provide Sixth Fleet Naval forces with infantry, air components support in the seizure or defense of naval bases and to conduct land operations as may be considered essential to the execution of the naval campaign;
- Provide Marine Units and accompanying organization and support for service on Sixth Fleet vessels and for the protection of Surface facilities and Starbases;
- Develop the doctrine, procedures, and equipment for airborne and ground based operations;
- Perform such other duties as the Fleet Commander in Chief, Fleet Commandant or higher authority may direct.
Vision
To provide Infantry and Air Support during wartime, and to augment Naval Security Forces during a crisis.
[edit] Organization
The Senior Most Marine in the Starfleet Marine Corps is the Marine Corps Commandant; this individual is responsible for the appointment of Regional/Fleet Level Sub-Commandants. These individuals hold the Three way Title of, "X" Fleet Marine Corps Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Starfleet Marine Corps as well as Commander, "X" Marine Division.
It the responsibility of the Commandant, 6FMC to ensure that unit commanders with embarked 6FMC personnel, as well as independent 6FMC units receive the required organization, recruits, training, and equipment necessary to carry out the mission of the Fleet and the Marine Corps at large.
The SFMC is divided into 4 divisions:
- Headquarters Command (MCHQ) - Leadership and Command & Control, Command Vessels fall under the direct control of the MCHQ, such as the USS Iwo Jima, Sixth Fleet's NPC Marine Corps Command and Control Vessel.
- Support Activities (MCSA) - These include but are not limited to Marine Corps Combat Development Command(MOS Schools like Demolitions, Snipers etc), Marine Corps Recruit Depots, Marine Corps Logistics Command(Supplies), Marine Air Command (MAC), Recruiting Command, and the Marine Band, 6F Division.
- Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) - These are all forces embarked upon or attached to a naval vessel or station or any unit where the Commander of the Marine Forces is not the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer of the unit. i.e. Not a marine sim.
- Operational Forces (MCOF) - This is the smallest division of forces in the SFMC, and consists of the forces attached to any completely independent Marine Force, where the CO and XO are Marines, and at least 50% of the attached forces are Marines. This essentially refers to marine only simulations.
Unit Organization:
Operational Forces are organized according to SFMC Organizational Doctrine by Fleet Marine Force Commanding and Executive Officers, in consultation with SFMC, AOR Commanders (Individual Fleet Marine Commandants).
- Trooper: This is the Basic unit, one humanoid life form, capable of independent thought, and function as trained by the Starfleet Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
- Patrol: In certain situations, a Fireteam maybe broken up into two man patrols when the situation is beneficial to the Marines involved. Whoever is senior, is typically in charge.
- Fireteam: In unit based combat, this is the smallest grouping that a field commander are supposed to break troops down to under normal conditions. A fire team consists of 4 Troopers, though it is occasionally found with 5 troopers, the 5 man team is the rare exception to the rule. A fire team is typically led by a LCpl. or Cpl.
- Squad: The Squad consists of 3 or 4 Fire teams, for a total manning of 12-16 personnel. A squad is typically led by a Sgt or Staff Sgt.
- Platoon: There are 3 - 4 Squads in a basic platoon. This unit is typically led by a 2nd or 1st Lieutenant (or Enlisted Equivalent). The platoon is the first level at which separate command and Logistical Support Personnel (LSP) may be attached. Command and LSP will typically make up no more than a Squad; this includes the Platoon CO and XO, as well as Platoon Sergeant and field medic. These Command personnel may or may not choose to be considered "operational" forces for the purposes of deploying personnel in a given situation.
- Company: The Company level unit contains 3 or 4 full platoons, and typically has a command platoon, and is typically Commanded by an officer ranked Captain or Major (or Enlisted Equivalent).
- Battalion: The Battalion consists of 3 or 4 companies, with the most common configuration being 3 companies plus a command/logistics company and a heavy weapons/combat support company (most commonly a dedicated fighter unit). This unit is typically led by a Lt Colonel.
- Regiment: Consisting of 2 or 3 full battalions, this unit is very large and would tax the resources of most craft not previously prepared to transport such a unit. Typically this unit is led by a Full Colonel, and occasionally by a Brigadier General.
- Brigade: Consisting of 2 or 3 Regiments, the Brigade sized unit requires a very large Logistical Support Operation(typically, Battalion sized) to sustain its operational status. Food, Gear, Ammunition, and Expeditionary Medical units are a requirement for this sized unit to maintain its combat effectiveness. This unit is typically 6100 to 9200 marines strong, and is commanded by a Brigadier General or a Major General.
- Division: This is the level of the Sixth Fleet Marine Corps, and as a result the 6FMC is better known as the Starfleet Marine Corps, 6th Division. The division consists of all Marine Forces, NPC and PC within Sixth Fleet. Typical manning of a standard Division is roughly 18-27 thousand persons. This unit would traditionally be led by a Lt General or General, however recent galactic events have seen this size unit being commanded by officers as low ranking as a Colonel.
