Mek'tor

A former Officer of the Klingon Defense Force, Captain Mek'tor is now a senior officer in Starfleet, serving as the Commanding Officer aboard the USS Cambrian since 2384. He has a background in Security and Tactical; prior to his current assignment, he served as Executive Officer aboard the USS Saturn.

[edit] BACKGROUND

Mek'tor's family was your typical Klingon warrior clan. His parents both served aboard a Vor'cha-class battle cruiser, and Mek'tor grew up aboard one of the premier ships of the Klingon fleet. His childhood wasn't remarkable, from Klingon standards. He became a warrior of his own right, going through the proper rights. Then with his parents' blessing he applied to the Klingon Academy.

He did well at the Academy, and soon was posted to his own bird of prey as a tactical officer, the IKS D'nang. Even though the 12 years he served weren't years of war, he saw his share of action. More than one of his comrades fell honorably in battle. In fact, about halfway through his tour, he got news that the ship he grew up on, his parents' battle cruiser, was destroyed by Romulans. Mek'tor celebrated their honourable deaths, and privately grieved his personal loss. He was happy they both would enter Sto-vo-kor.

[edit] Starfleet History

In 2365, Mek'tor took advantage of the Officer Exchange Program, taking a post aboard the USS Endeavour. This was the same year that Commander Riker served aboard the IKS Pagh. Mek'tor enjoyed his time aboard the Starfleet vessel. In 2368 he had an opportunity to continue service in the Klingon Defense Force, or retire with honor. With his positive experience with the Officer Exchange Program, Mek'tor decided to broaden his horizons. He wouldn't get his own command in the Klingon Defense Force; there were more worthy warriors. Plus, the life expectancy wasn't all that high. He chose to retire, and put forth his application to Starfleet Academy. He did well at the Academy, already having experience from the KDF, and being at least a decade older than most of the other cadets. He made friends difficultly, his age and confidence limiting him. He did end up graduating within the top 10% of the class.

His first posting was to the USS Exeter as a security officer. He did well at that position, keeping the ship well under control, even during the Dominion War. He was quickly promoted to Chief of Security. He enacted many of his own protocols into the ship's workings that endure to the present day.

Mek'tor then got an opportunity for command experience, as he was offered the spot of Executive Officer aboard the USS Saturn. He accepted, and served admirably for two years. He then received an assignment as Commanding Officer on the Cambrian, fulfilling his goal of commanding his own starship. After serving on the Cambrian for a year, Mek'tor was surprised by his crew by the gift of the command chair from a Klingon Bird of Prey - something he had been working to acquire since becoming an Executive Officer on the Saturn.

Early in 2385, Mek'tor competed in the 7th annual betleH Tournament, held this year at Starbase 72, also known as Camelot. While Mek'tor did not win the competition, he did meet many honourable warriors and new friends from throughout Starfleet. He survived the destruction of the starbase only through the valiant flying of one Jacen Parami, whom he has since named as his new Executive Officer. Mek'tor only hopes Commander Parami will last longer than the previous two incumbents.

Warrior ethos, he prizes honor. If you treat him with dignity, he will reciprocate with the same. He is a strong leader, and subordinates look up to him for such.

Weakness / Limitations: He sometimes will put honour first, common sense second. On occasion he can be a little overzealous in his warrior ideals. He has trouble following some "technobabble" that Science, Ops and Engineering tend to use.

Ambitions, quirks, interests & hobbies: He is generally amiable, and has an infectious laugh. For a Klingon, he smiles much too often. His hobbies include sparring with his bat'leth, and he is always looking for partners. He has a number of combat holoprograms, with one oddity - an "alternate future" 2100s interstellar adventure. His ambition is to be more than simply another warrior, and to command the USS Cambrian with distinction.
