Morgan is Chief Intelligence Officer of the USS Saturn (NCC-71801).
[edit] BACKGROUND
Morgan never knew his real parents. All that he managed to conclude was that he was born on civilian transport ship "Bright Star". How the ship got into the hands of Cardassians, he does not know still, but after that, all crew and passengers were placed in penal colony on Zetus IX. What were the reasons, that also is unknown to him. Young Morgan was eventually adopted by John and Melissa LaTaer and, as they didn't even know his name, they named him as he'd be their son.
Life in a penal colony wasn't something Morgan could describe as happy childhood, in fact, he can see constant pictures of violence and the screams of tormented prisoners haunt him in dreams even now. Once he has grown, he was sent to work in mines, where he shared the same horrifying existence as other prisoners. Resistance was pointless, as Cardassian guards knew they could spare one worker to teach other a lesson. Before he realized that he got into a fight, after which he had problems with moving during the next two weeks and a scar on his neck for the rest of his life.
At the age of 13, he met So'Vak, a Vulcan, who spoke next to none about his past. So'Vak was half-mad, after spending 20 years in the prison, seeing that most of events that take place seem to be in collision with his logical beliefs. He maintained some level of discipline and because of that he made a good companion for Morgan. It was he who discovered LaTaer's telepathic talent and helped him to develop it. Yet the torment of the colony was visible at every part of such existence. In a futile hope of self-defense, So'Vak taught Morgan to unleash full power of his mind, how to invade someone's mind and how to kill with only a thought. At one night, the Cardassians came for So'Vak, mentioned something about the masquerade being over and took him, not before beating the consciousness out of him. In an outburst of anger, Morgan summoned all the power of his mind he could muster and brought an imaginable torment to one of the guard's mind with a sheer intent to kill him, only to get it's share of beating. It was a miracle that he survived that at all.
He regained consciousness aboard USS Stormclaw, a Galaxy class starship, sent under the guide of SFI to locate and dispatch the colony. Morgan never got to know what happened to his step-parents, nor the Vulcan So'Vak, but heard that Cardassians, in an attempt to hide evidence, or maybe something more, destroyed a large part of the colony, by planting explosives.
With no data, Starfleet sent Morgan to the institute for war-orphaned children. There, he spent countless sessions with counsellors and with a tutor from Betazoid Embassy. After years of teraphy, filled with countless courses to develop his abilities in numerous fields. With reshaped attitude towards people, with stable mind, he found his call, Starfleet Academy, and after that, Intelligence Division.

- Adoptive Parents: John and Melissa LaTaer
Personality
"Unrestful look, and sometimes artificial calmness show that Cadet LaTaer has hidden passions. Nonetheless, he acts well in social environment, rarely causes any conflicts, and is generally obedient to orders. It is worth mentioning that, whatever the cause, he displayed a difficult to define uneasiness at the mention of Cardassians. As much as it was the case of large percent of Cadets over the past years, due to Dominion War, the reaction was noted as above average and it is recommendable to any counselor at the place of his assignment to take note of it. He gets well with others, yet he's not a person that is in the center of attention, he sometimes prefers to be alone, even if social activities are taking place and all others participate."
- Lieutenant Jason Winswill, Academy's Counsellor.
- Strengths: Patient, multitasking, observerant. In addition to typical senses, he utilizes his telepathic and empathic prowess in full, not shunning from using those to his advantage. An inborn telepathic ability, developed by disciplined Vulcan training without restrictions dictated by Betazoid beliefs. Morgan would not openly admit it, but he does not cover from using its full potential, which, even though potent, is far from accomplished.
- Weaknesses: Morgan's will and self-control, largely developed by training his mental powers is not limitless. As much as he strives to remain in control, the few weak spots, regarding his secret past seem to injure him deeply. His past's version that he repeats constantly seems to have holes and can provoke him into passion if tinkered with too thoroughly. While the scar on his neck, which he hastily explains as a sparring accident, is only a cosmetic discomfort, Morgan suffers a spine injury that has never quite recovered. Dismissed by him as a result of an accident of his youth, it leads to physical discomfort and weariness if prolonged activity on an away mission takes place.
- Likes: Morgan has an obsession with information. Whenever something is in the air, he steps out of himself to gather every bit of information to become acquainted with the problem. He also takes effort to keep his body in constant readiness, though he's unable to tell whether this came about because of his preferences or the years of imprisonment. His personal favorite relaxing activity is playing flute. The sounds of the instrument, in his mind, are the softest and most effective way of calming his unrestful soul.
- Dislikes: Anything uncomprehensible. Anything that escapes his mental senses.
- Hobbies: Music; Morgan is quite skilled in playing flute. His preference in this art varies, being a sort of summary of different cultures and races, though the tones of flute seem to be calming to him. A morbid hobby to some degree, but Morgan fonds himself in observing how minds react to defined impulses. Holding no regard for traditional Betazoid beliefs, he shuns not from using its own mind to influence others, even though large part of him speaks against such experiments.
- Quirks: When excited, a disturbing twinkle in his eyes appears. People glancing at them may feel uncomfortable, some would say his past must have been tragic or unnatural to say the least, as they could see suffering there. When feeling uncomfortable itself, Morgan often mindlessly stretches his collar, like he wanted to ensure that his scar is covered. If he doesn't like someone he tends to be more sarcastic and ironic than towards others., As much as he wants to cover it – he hates Cardassians.,Generally social, he sometimes tends to fall back and observe other rather than participate. Hidden to most, Morgan holds a light "aim excuses the means" approach. In his work, he will be likely to bend rules in order to get things accomplished for the greater good. His obsession with information often reaches the peaks that fade into paranoia. This leads him into prying into other people's personal lives with the use of his inborn powers, not occasionally resulting in their discomfort.

Physical Description
Sports a medium-length hair, prone to twist into roguish curls whenever Morgan neglects tending to them. Wears facial hair consisting of dense mustache and beard. A horizontal scar reminding a slashing blow marks his neck, as a reminder of some unspoken past. When put in an uneasy situation, Morgan often pulls the collar of his uniform in an attempt to cover the scar in subconscious fashion.
Height: 1.78 m
Hair: Black
Eyes: Black
Skin tone: Pale
"Medical examination and endurance tests clear Cadet LaTaer for duty, yet it should be noted that his spine seems to be in a weakened state, an extremely slow healing injury from his youth. While in no way an endangering dysfunction, permitting a full active service, the medical chief at the Cadet's assignment ought to take note that it might cause weariness during prolonged field missions."
- Commander Maxwell Pertow, Academy's Medical Examination Deparment.
