Growing up to become a Quatermaster at the Surplus Depot on Qualor II Phen finally joined Starfleet after his mother’s death. Upon graduation he spent some time as an Intelligence Analyst before becoming Chief Intelligence Officer aboard the USS Oberon (NCC-80111). With the creation of the Logistics Depot on Sigma Librae, and with his history as a Quartermaster Phen was tasked with over-seeing that the fleet assigned to the Hurucan Sector is supplied and operational.
[edit] BACKGROUND
Phen was born on the Zakdorn colony of Qualor II. He lived with his mother who was very protective of him. She constantly refused to tell Phen who his father was. All this meant that Phen grew up as a very shy child, and often kept to himself.
Like most Zakdorn children Phen loved to do puzzles and learn. When he wasn’t at school he would often be found in the woods near his home studying the latest edition of Genii Compendium.
Phen started school at the age of 2 and throughout his schooling he was amongst the top achievers in his class.
Upon his graduation he went to work at the Surplus Depot, the main employer on Qualor. He started out as a Storeman and loved the ordered nature of the many vast warehouses. He believed he was the best storeman there had ever been, and loved nothing better than cataloguing and sorting parts.
It was at the depot that he first learnt to play the game of Strategema. Zakdorn facilities often had areas set aside for the workers to challenge themselves mentally. It was in one of these that Phen started playing the game. He struggled at first, often losing. He hated getting beaten so much that he would spend hours practicing, and soon became one of the top players at the depot.
In the summer of 2375 Phen entered the Qualor Strategema Tournament. Phen played well, and out of 12,000 competitors he came an impressive 6th. As a result of his performance he was awarded the rank of grand master. Upon returning to work he was called into the Quartermasters office and informed that he was being promoted to Assistant Quartermaster.
Two years later Phen’s mother, Reza passed away. She had been ill for a few months, causing Phen great concern. He was devastated at his mother’s death and took time off work. He found it hard living on Qualor without his mother and after giving it some serious thought he decided to leave Qualor and join StarFleet. He passed the entrants exam and left Qualor for StarFleet Academy in 2377.
After his first years of basic training and general studies Phen was assigned to be an Intelligence Cadet. He spent the next two years being instructed in all matters of intelligence and information gathering. He thrived in this field; his analytical mind was suited to the vast amounts of information an intelligence officer has to deal with. Along with several other cadets he spent his Cadet cruise aboard the USS Yeager, travelling throughout the Alpha quadrant.
Upon his graduation from the Academy, Phen was assigned to Starfleet Intelligence on Earth. His duties included analysing and collating intelligence data from across the federation. After sixth months as an Intel Officer Phen was sent on a Tactical Analysis course. The idea was to bolster his Intelligence skills with some tactical knowledge. The course ran for a year; along side his work as an Intel Officer, and at the end of the course Phen aced his exams. Returning to Starfleet Intelligence Headquarters he was assigned as a Tactical Analyst for the Sixth Fleet. Early in 2384 he was promoted to Lieutenant JG and reassigned as Chief Intelligence Officer aboard the USS Oberon.
Phen’s posting to the Oberon started off with a bang. On his first mission the ship got pulled into another galaxy by a juvenile 'Caretaker'. After returning to the Alpha Quadrant the badly damaged ship suffered a change of command. The next few missions were just as eventful, and when the ship was tasked with exploring the Hurucan Sector things took a turn for the worst. The ship was sabotaged by a crew member forcing them to abandon it. Stranded on Sigma Librae II the crew constructed some temporary shelters.
However, when they were finally rescued their temporary base on the P-class planet was chosen as the foundations for a new Logistics Depot to supply the further exploration of this region. With Phen’s experience on Qualor II, and his species ability to organise he was transferred from the Oberon to oversee the bases, and the sectors fleet supplies. To achieve this he was promoted to Lieutenant by the Sector Admiral.
