Rikka is the CAG aboard the Steamrunner-class USS Barnes (NCC-52621).
[edit] BACKGROUND
Rikka was brought up on Betazed by her father, or more brought herself up with her father. The pair had a very formal relationship. Aldred never wanted to have children, he considered that Rikka was just another disruption to his work. Rikka's mother had been killed when Rikka was two years old, she died when pirates attacked the shuttle she was one, they boarded and killed all aboard before stealing the little cargo they carried, leaving Rikka solely in the care of her Father, much to his dislike. Rikka's father was very strict and demanded discipline and importantly for Rikka to remain silent at all times, minimising the disruption. Luckily he worked away a lot so Rikka spent most of her days with her friends. She quickly got used to having to look after herself and became very independent.
When Rikka was sixteen she finally found out what had happened to her mother, she vowed to herself that she would get into position to stop it happening again. So two months after her seventeenth birthday she left Betazed without telling her father. She left for Earth and as soon as she was old enough, joined Starfleet Academy. She hasn't spoken to or seen her father since.
Rikka had a shaky start to Academy life. Her strict upbringing had set a deep mistrust of authority in her and she found it difficult to adapt to the chain of command that was core to Starfleet. She ended up in many arguments with her lecturers, yet they saw potential in her so she somehow made it through her first year. At the start of her second year when the final career choices were made on Rikka took the Marine role, specialising as a fighter pilot.
Her remaining years at the academy were filled with more arguments and Rikka spent a lot of time being re-run around the assault course or cleaning the drill sergeants boots or whatever other demeaning tasks he could find for her. Despite everything Rikka actually respected him more than she did the officers she was training to become one of.
By the time she graduated in her final year Rikka had calmed down and settled more into the Starfleet regime, her instructors praised her for managing to make it through despite all the troubles she had along the way. Her first assignment was to the Dekken IV colony where she joined 'Eagle Squadron' an all marine unit patrolling a shipping path through the system that was known for its high pirate activity.
The assignment was pretty uneventful, despite the high pirate activity. Most of the pirates had long since learnt how to avoid the federation patrols. Rikka was stationed on the planet for two years with only the occasional skirmish, and most of those were with her squadron CO. However during that second year Rikka's Flight came across a freighter drifting through the system away from the main shipping lane. As they approached they were ambushed be three small pirate ships. Rikka's flight leader Captain Jukes order them to attack. Within minutes of the attack Juke's fighter was hit and destroyed, with things looking bad Rikka took the initiative and ordered the fighters to disengage and bug-out. For her actions that potentially saved the other two fighters in her flight she was promoted to first lieutenant and made flight leader
Another two uneventful years followed in which Rikka made it to the rank of marine captain. By this time the build up of the Dominion forces and the increasing tension between the Dominion, federation and Cardassians was leading Starfleet to star moving personnel around in preparation for the for inevitable conflict. Rikka was reassigned to the USS Isdale, an Akira class carrier, and for the first time she would be flying with Naval pilots. Rikka was assigned as Senior Marine Pilot and the squadrons XO.
the Isdale as part the the Third Carrier group set off to the Cardassian border and remained close to the Kaden Colony where they had stationed themselves. The first skirmish they were involved in didn't come until several months after the groups formation. As the Dominion began to tighten its grip on their Cardassian allies several Dominion raiders decided to engage the group as they patrolled the border. The groups 3 fighter squadrons engaged and manage to disable Two of the Dominion ships, however they suffered heavy losses. Rikka was one of only Two marine pilots that survived the attack. A few months later the war officially began as Cardassia became a fully Dominion controlled world, then several weeks later Deep Space Nine was evacuated. The third carrier group was assigned to aid in the evacuation.
The opening weeks of the war saw the carrier group sent into several more battles, but it was two months into the was they saw the worst of it. The three carriers and four escort ships were engaged by two Breen ships and four Cardassian Keldon Class ships.
The groups Flag ship, USS Post-Haven was destroyed in minutes. The fighter squadron became confused and panicked as the larger ships started to take major damage. Rikka soon realised that the Halo squadron CO had been lost, however in all the confusion it was hard to tell who in her squadron was left. She ordered the squadron to reform on her wing but nobody came. Rikka's fighter was hit shortly after. She was knocked unconscious for the remainder of the battle, to be picked up 8 hours later by the USS Marina. The third group had one surviving escort ship that had been forced to retreat and nine out of eighty-four fighter pilots had survived.
Rikka spent the next several weeks in sickbay at Starbase 375 before finally being reassigned to the USS Galacta. Rikka's fighting style changed since the third group was destroyed. She had lost many friends and now all she wanted was to get on with fighting. Her style became more reckless as she seemed less interested in her own safety more in what ships she could destroy. This greatly annoyed her new squadron CO and often landed her in trouble.
When the war finally ended Rikka's squadron CO grounded her. Claiming that without an enemy to shoot at she was too much of a liability to be in the cockpit. This didn't help their relationship and caused several more arguments and many days spent alone in the brig. It was during one such argument, that Rikka finally snapped and started a fight with her squadron CO and breaking several of his ribs in the process. At her Courts-Martial she and was dismissed from the Marine Corps, with her flight status revoked indefinitely. Rikka spent thirty days in the brig before finally being released and sent back to the Academy re-train as a security and tactical officer.
Rikka's mistrust of senior officers continued through her re-training, but for the most part she had just lost interest in Starfleet and wholly expected to be booted out. Once her retraining was complete Rikka spent a year bouncing from ship to ship as CO after CO decided they didn't want her around until finally she was assigned to the USS Walters, an old Excelsior class starship, but in reasonable condition. Her new CO Captain Carly Haynes forced Rikka to sort herself out, and after only two months restored her old rank and made her Chief Tactical Officer. Rikka and Captain Harris got on well together and Rikka's career was finally back on track.
However two short years later the Walters was decommissioned. Rikka was transferred to the USS Apollo to take up the Chief Tactical Officers role. The Apollo was an old moth-balled Steamrunner brought out of the graveyard to help bolster the dwindled fleet. However Rikka instantly fell out with her new CO Commander Aiden Mitchell, he was the prime example of the arrogant know it all officer that Rikka hated. Her new CO tried to have her transferred within days of her arrival but it was refused. The pair worked on the ship together with an uneasy truce, Rikka managing to avoid arguments by avoiding the CO, which given the ship didn't have many duties wasn't all that difficult. Rikka's torture came to an end six months into her assignment when the Apollo was assigned permanently to the New Deridous Colony and Commander Mitchell was reassigned to the USS Odyssey.
Rikka stayed with the Apollo for some time, slowly re-building the trust of her superiors, and after three years finally got the orders she had been waiting for. On the recomendation of the Apollo's CO she was re-instated into the Marine corps with her former rank and her flight status was restored, days later she was assigned as Commander, Air Group on the USS Barnes as it set out for it's new assignment, Sigma Librae

"I believe that Rikka's objection to authority figures reaches back to her childhood relationship with her father, what we see now in later life is not her rebelling against Starfleet or her superiors but her father.
On the more recent issue being her increasing neglect of her personal safety is in my expert opinion indicates that she is suffering from survivors guilt as a result of the 3rd groups destruction. Being the only survivor of the USS Isdale means its understandable that she should feel wronged that she survived when her friends and colleagues didn't. Only time will tell if she can get past this. However on assessing the lieutenant I believe that with the proper guidence she should be able to reintegrate into the fleet."
