- Nick met Maria and Cherijo in college before his first wife died. After her death, the group of five friends joined in a group marriage to raise their children. Nick promptly decided to be a stay-at-home dad. He is a fabulous cook, and takes pride in keeping the household and all its members on track. He flirts with all women, but is true to his spouses. Usually wears black, mostly because he knows how it sets off his blue eyes. Upon establishment of the group marriage, they agreed to all take on Nick’s last name of Etain.

- Human, 28
- A native North American Indian, Cherijo developed a feel for animals of all kinds at an early age. After becoming a veterinarian, she decided that her skills would be put to their best use away from Earth. Since two of the members of their marriage group were in Starfleet, and Nick was happy to be anywhere, Denise and Cherijo decided upon Deridous IV, where there was a call both for a pediatrician and a veterinarian. Cherijo is rather quiet around other people, even those in her family. This makes her everyone’s choice for a quiet talk about whatever is troubling them.

- Bolian, 35
- Sakic was a close friend of Nick’s from high school. He was raised on Earth because his parents were on the diplomatic staff of the Ambassador to the Federation from Bolarus. He liked the idea of a big family, but also wanted to pursue a career in Starfleet. When invited to join the group marriage, he jumped at the chance. Nick is a Lieutenant in Starfleet, serving aboard the USS Athena as an exobiologist. He tries to return home on every shoreleave he can.

- Human, 27
- Maria is the youngest of the co-spouses in the family group. She met Cherijo in high school, and they remained good friends even when she left to enter Starfleet Academy. She is an Ensign serving as an Engineering Officer aboard the USS Nogata, out of SB218. She can be moody and impulsive, but is very affectionate with all her family members.
