Sanura Al-Amiri is a civilian aboard the USS Bismarck (NCC-1108-C). She is the manager and head bartender for the 10@2 Lounge.
[edit] BACKGROUND
[edit] Early Life
Sanura Al-Amiri was born March 21, 2359 aboard the USS Kyushu where her mother, Lt. Halla Al-Amiri served as a linguistics officer. She only saw her father a few times a year, as he was often away on archaeological digs on various planets. During the first Borg incursion in 2367, Sanura and her brother were with their father on a dig, and so were not aboard the Kyushu when it was destroyed at Wolf 359. Their mother was killed in the battle. A week later, Said resigned from his exoarchaeology team and accepted a teaching position on Earth at the University of Cairo.
Back on Earth, Sanura was popular, but lacked the focus to do as well as her brother in school. Her daydreaming frustrated those around her, especially her father, but as she had no neurological conditions her lack of attention was something Said and her teachers simply had to deal with. The only subjects that appealed to Sanura were literature, language, and music and her studies in them were haphazard at best. She was cast in nearly a dozen plays starting when she was 12, both at school and in smaller theaters in Cairo.
When war broke out with the Dominion in 2373, Ammon applied for Starfleet Academy. Their father was reluctant to let him go but understood Ammon's desire to serve. Sanura did not, and was devastated. She had lost her mother to war already; it seemed a certainty that she would lose her brother, too. It didn't help that Sanura was close to her brother and saw him as the only other person her accepted her for who she was. After he left, Sanura let her studies fall off further and barely earned the grades needed to pass her classes. The only things she took seriously were theater and calligraphy. She continued act in plays and attained fluency in ancient Egyptian and near fluency in Japanese.
[edit] Risa, Vulcan and Betazead
Sanura finally (barely) graduated from high school in 2377, shortly after her eighteenth birthday. Her father hoped she would enter college to study theater, but Sanura had no interest in going to any school again. Their troubled relationship worsened and she left Cairo for San Francisco, getting a job as a server and bartender at a bar frequented by Starfleet officers and cadets. She was only there for a few months before leaving Earth with a Rigelian freighter captain. That relationship lasted three months before he left her on the shipping outpost Farius Prime, broke, friendless, and far from home. A few weeks later, she charmed her way onto another freighter and ended up on Risa, getting another job tending bar at a luxury resort.
Late in 2378, she met a Vulcan biologist named Sulek who was studying plant hybridization. Over the weeks of his stay, Sulek and Sanura became friends- or closer. He invited her to return to Vulcan with him, and she went.
Sanura spent nearly two years there and fell in love with nearly everything about the planet, except the way many Vulcans looked at her when she was with Sulek. For a people who supposedly refrained from emotion, she felt they scorned and even hated her for her relationship with Sulek. Over time, she grew so uncomfortable with their treatment of her she decided to leave Vulcan. She was reluctant to go, not wanting to abandon the life she had built with Sulek but she couldn't stand to either stay locked up at home or live with the hostile gazes.
Sulek found her a position in the archives at the University of Betazed where he had studied for a time. The job was dull- cataloging new material and maintaining the historical artifacts. To pass the time, she began a relationship with an anthropology professor named Andrys Erskane. Sanura always viewed it as a pleasant diversion but he wanted it to be much more. Months of conflict came to a head one night when Erskane, drunk and angry, came into the archives; they argued, he grabbed her arm and she lost her balance and fell, hitting her head on a table edge. Erskane panicked and fled, thinking that he had killed her. He was later arrested for assault, and she spent two days recovering in the University's medical center. Sanura declined to press charges and spent most of her savings to get far from Betazed as quickly as possible.
[edit] The Present
She wandered throughout Federation territory for the next couple of years, taking a variety of positions and taking up with several people including a Kerelian diplomat (whose name she refuses to divulge to protect his careers), and a female Bajoran engineer named Tor Enala. From time to time, she considered going back to Vulcan (Sulek and his betrothed had declined to marry each other), but couldn't convince herself to swallow her pride and go. Late in 2385, she was hired to run a small bar and lounge on the USS Bismarck. After her years of wandering, it seemed a stable enough place, but offered the sort of new experiences she always craved.

"...The patient, Sanura Al-Amiri, age nine, bitten on the left ankle by an asp near her father's archaeological dig outside Cairo. On-site medics treated her with anti-venom and transferred her to Cairo's main medical center where she was given further treatment and released the next day. Snakebite symptoms had disappeared within twelve hours, and patient went home with minimal scarring...."
10.12.2382
"Brought in unconscious due to head trauma after a fall during an apparent altercation. Patient remained unconscious for forty-seven hours after admittance before awakening with few clear memories of the incident. Superficial bruising on arms and face were treated, as was a hairline fracture of the right temple. Fears of brain damage were allayed when the patient recovered full cognizance within four hours of waking. Minor scarring is present where the concussion occurred, but is not expected to cause further problems. Patient was released three days after admittance."
Dr. Tega Neshan
University of Betazed Medical Center
[edit] Psychological Extract
"While she doesn't lack the necessary intelligence to do well in school, Sanura has difficulty staying focused on her schoolwork and lacks the discipline she needs to complete many assignments and other tasks her teachers give her. She seems to be bored much of the time, though whether it's because she has already learned the material or because she simply isn't interested in it is hard to say. There are no physiological conditions present, so the best course of action would be to work on behavioral modifications in the hope that Sanura will learn to concentrate more fully on her work."
Dr. Manud Suytui
School Psychologist, Manarat el Qahira School
