[edit] Mission
The official mission of the Starfleet Marine Corps was established by the Starfleet Marine Corps First Commandant, General Nathan Allen Lejeune, descendant of the 13th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, after his office was created by the Marine Corps Act of 2342.
"Marines are trained, organized and equipped for offensive deployment and as a “force in readiness"
As such, the Sixth Fleet Marine Corps, has established the following as its mission statment:
- Provide Sixth Fleet Naval forces with infantry, air components support in the seizure or defense of naval bases and to conduct land operations as may be considered essential to the execution of the naval campaign;
- Provide Marine Units and accompanying organization and support for service on Sixth Fleet vessels and for the protection of Surface facilities and Starbases;
- Develop the doctrine, procedures, and equipment for airborne and ground based operations;
- Perform such other duties as the Fleet Commander in Chief, Fleet Commandant or higher authority may direct.
[edit] Responsibilities
- Establish the positions, roles, organization and procedures of all Marine personnel within Sixth Fleet, including but not limited to; SpecOps teams, fire team makeup, deployment of regiments, and Marine Air Group makeup and organization.
- Establish canon regarding the history and culture of the Fleet Marine Corps.
[edit] Sixth Fleet Marine Forces
[edit] Description
The Sixth Fleet Marine Corps, is led by the Commandant and is field combat and naval safety focused, light infantry, and combat support force capable of deploying on short notice in support of Sixth Fleet Forces, Fleet and Marine Doctrine, as well as military and diplomatic objectives. In conjunction with Starfleet Naval Forces, the 6FMC can provide resources for Military Aid to Civil Authority and power, as well as civil police actions in times of extreme necessity.
Marines wishing to assume command positions must first attend the Marine War College.
[edit] Marine Corps Operational Divisions
The Marine Corps is divided into 5 divisions:
Headquarters Command (MCHQ) – leadership and command and control, Command Vessels fall under the direct control of the MCHQ, such as the USS Iwo Jima, Sixth Fleet's NPC Marine Corps Command and Control Vessel.
Support Activities (MCSA) – These include but are not limited to Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Marine Corps Recruit Depots, Marine Corps Logistics Command, Recruiting Command, and the Marine Band, 6F Division.
Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) – These are all forces attached to a naval vessel or station or any unit where the Commander of the Marine Forces is not the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer of the unit.
Operational Forces (MCOF) – This is the smallest division of forces in the 6FMC, and consists of the forces attached to any completely independent Marine Force, or any force where either the CO or XO is a Marine Corps Officer, and at least 1/3 of the attached forces are marines. This essentially refers to marine only simulations.
Marine Aviation Command (MAC) - This component of the Marine Corps is somewhat different from its counterparts. While it shares the role of providing support to warfare operations, most of its personnel take on roles that a normal Marine simply does not train in. Combat-rated pilots, skilled engineers, and technical support teams that rival those of Starfleet itself are a promenant and unusal 'norm' for the Aviation world.
[edit] Ground Unit Organization
While Operational Forces (Marine only Sims) are strictly organized according to 6FMC organizational doctrine as a Corps standard, this standard is subject to modification by Fleet Marine Force Commanding and Executive Officers, in consultation with 6FMC, AOR Commanders (Individual Fleet Marine Commandants).
Division (DIV): This is the level of the Sixth Fleet Marine Corps, the 6FMC is better known as the SFMC, 6th Division. The division consists of all Marine Forces, NPC and PC within sixth fleet. Typical manning of a standard Division is roughly 15 thousand persons. This unit would traditionally be led by a Lt General or General, however recent galactic events have seen this size unit being commanded by officers as low ranking as a Colonel.
Brigade (BDE):
Regiment (REG): Consisting of 3, occasionally 4 full battalions, this unit is very large and would tax the resources of most craft not previously prepared to transport such a unit. Typically this unit is led by a Brigadier or Major General.
Battalion (BN): The Battalion consists of 3 or 4 companies, with the most common configuration being 4 companies plus a command/logistics company and a heavy weapons/combat support company (most commonly a dedicated fighter unit). There are roughly 768 operational marines in the 4 primary companies, and plus command/logistics and fighter complement personnel, making total unit strength somewhere near 1000 personnel. This unit is typically led by a Colonel.
Company (CO): The Company level unit contains 3 full platoons, plus a command platoon, for a max total of 144 Marines, plus 48 command personnel, for a grand total of about 192 marines. Commanded by an officer ranked Captain to Lt. Colonel
Platoon (PLT): There are 4 Squads in your basic platoon, for a total of 48 personnel. This unit is led by a 2nd or 1st Lieutenant (or Enlisted equivalent). The platoon is the first level at which separate command and logistical support personnel (LSP) might be attached. Command and LSP will typically make up no more than a Squad of 12 personnel (effectively increasing this unit size to 60 personnel); this includes the Platoon CO and XO, as well as Platoon Sergeant and field medic. These Command personnel may or may not choose to be considered "operational" forces for the purposes of deploying personnel in a given situation.
Squad (SQD): The Squad consists of 3 Fire teams, for a total manning of 12 personnel. A squad is led by a Sgt or Corporal/Warrant Officer.
Fire team (FT): In unit based combat, this is the smallest grouping that a field commander has the authority to break troops down to for safety purposes. A fire team consists of 4 Troopers, though it is occasionally found with 5 troopers, the 5 man team is the rare exception to the rule. A fire team is led by a LCpl. or Cpl.
Trooper (TRP): This is the Basic unit, one humanoid life form, capable of independent thought, and function as trained by the Starfleet Marine Corps Combat Development Command.

[edit] Marine Aviation Command
[edit] Description
The Marine Aviation Command (MAC), while operating under the umbrella of the Marine Corps, consists of a group of men and women who are not apart of the main stream Marine life. While they are trained to take up a rifle and act as infantrymen in the field if needs call for such, their infantry trained counterparts would find themselves woefully ill-equipped to pick up the tools of the trade that keep Marine aircraft in the skies. Because of this, many Aviation Marines (sometimes referred to as Zipper Suited Sun Gods) have a superior attitude when dealing with their less diversely trained counterparts.
[edit] Marine Aviation Unit Organization
Major Command (MAJCOM): The largest unit within the Marine Aviation Command (MAC). This particular unit is not part of the Sixth Fleet Marine Corps chain of command, however one does exist that presides over the subordinate units which fall under the Command of the Commandant, Sixth Fleet Marines. This unit typically hosts 2 or more Numbered Marine Air Forces (#MAFs), each of which are organized with the overall MAJCOM's central mission as their primary capability.
Numbered Marine Air Force (#MAF): This unit typically hosts several wings with the goal of accomplishing the mission their MAJCOM is tasked with. #MAFs are usually made up of several wings which utilize similar craft (i.e.; fighters, bombers, transport carrier craft) to perform various flight operations across an Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Wing: This unit is the largest operational unit, meaning it is the largest unit designation that performs tasks directly related to the overall MAJCOM mission. Wings are usually operated from static base locations, whether they be stationed on a planet or starbase, and even Expeditionary Wings have a 'home base' for which they return to when not deployed to a front line environment.
Group: This unit oversees a large portion of a specific aspect involved with the operational needs of the Wing at large. Groups are commonly composed of squadrons who perform fuctions that are similar to their brethren in the group. The Operations Group consists of those squadrons that take part in the active operational duties the Wing is charged to perform, such as the actual flying squadrons, support squadrons for the flyers, and logistic elements that directly affect a Wings ability to 'get the job done'. Whereas the Maintenance Group is composed of all the verious component Maintenance Squadrons that ensure that the craft in use and the facilities that support them are well maintained and ready at all times. Other groups include Medical and Logistics Groups that perform vital tasks that may or may not directly impact the accomplishing of the MAJCOM mission, but are nevertheless crucial to the continued functioning of a wing.
Squadron: This unit is composed of various flights which take care of the daily operational tasks that are required to support the mission, as well as fellow squadrons and groups throughout the wing. Examples include the flying squadrons, aircraft maintenance squadron, components maintenance squadron, security forces squadron, and other similar units which are composed of flights which perform very specific tasks for the unit.
Flight: The smallest operational component in the Marine Aviation Command (MAC), a flight is responsible for seeing that each task that, combined, keeps the wing up and running is accomplished day in and day out. Each flight is named after their specific task and is responsible for only one duty, with trained specialists devoted to getting it done. Units smaller than a flight are used primarily for illustration purposes, as no Marine in these units has any tangable skills outside of the infantry and special duty training they recieved and use on a daily basis.
