[edit] BACKGROUND

Gorn Hegemony

Skorn was born on the jungle planet of Ghdar II in 2322. Upon reaching maturity, he enlisted into the military arm of the Gorn Hegemony. For the next sixteen years, he underwent the ritualistic training in survival, combat, and space faring. After the completion of his training, Skorn decided that he was much better suited for a ground assault unit then serving aboard a starship, so he put in for and received an assignment with the Second Pack, Fifth Clan.

He was an average soldier, obeying what orders came his way and conducting himself in a manner befitting a warrior. However during a Romulan incursion Skorn began to rise to prominence. During the skirmish, his pack became pinned between two flanking enemy squads. With defeat inevitable, Skorn manned a heavy disruptor and poured suppression fire on both groups of attacking Romulans, giving his pack time to retreat to higher ground and regroup. Skorn was eventually shot and captured, but was freed soon afterwards when his pack routed the Romulan presence. By virtue of this act, Skorn was made Assistant Pack Leader and became a close friend to his immediate superior.

During the beginning days of the Dominion War, the Gorn had problems of their own. Using the distraction of a galactic war, the Black Crest warrior caste overthrew the ruling caste, launching the Hegemony into a short but bloody civil war. Other than a handful of desertions, the Fifth Clan remained loyal to the Supreme Crestleader Rasog and moved against their treasonous brethren. During an engagement, Skorn's Pack Leader changed sides, forcing Skorn to kill him.

After an intervention of the Enterprise-E, Rasog was restored to power and the Black Crest were all but wiped out in retaliation. Skorn's simple actions during the civil war were blown out of proportion in an attempt to turn him into a heroic example. He was promoted to Pack Leader and spearheaded the Gorn force sent against the Dominion as a token of appreciation for Starfleet's help.

After the Dominion War, The Hegemony established diplomatic ties with the Federation, and began to reconstitute their forces after them. Rates and ranks were adapted, as well as other changes to make cooperation between the two powers easier. One such change was the inclusion of Gorn into the Federation Exchange Program, and one of the first candidates was Skorn.

Skorn was sent to study human behavior for a couple of years, and was then enrolled into Starfleet Academy, where he chose to study as a marine recruit. After he completes his tour of duty in Starfleet, Skorn has plans to return to the Gorn Hegemony as an instructor.

Starfleet Service

During his last days at the academy, The Supreme Crestleader was assassinated on board the USS Athena. Upon hearing the news, Skorn pleaded with his instructor for an assignment on board. He knew the chances were good that it would be the Athena tasked with investigating the murder of Rasog, who had always been like a father to him.

During the course of the mission, Skorn reconsidered his reason for joining the Athena and where his desire for revenge would place his career in Starfleet. Upon the completion of the Athena's mission, he put in for a transfer to the USS Destiny to fulfill his original motives for joining the exchange program.

During the outset of a mission, Skorn was chosen to be part of the Command Team on board the U.S.S. Nautilus. Before the vessel could depart, an accident forced Skorn to return to Starbase Aiperon and miss the mission. In compensation, he recieved a position aboard the U.S.S. Jurassic. It was as the platoon leader that Skorn was tasked with the formation of a rapid response team. With a little help from Richard Marcinko, a former subordinate and member of SWORD, Skorn's Rangers were born.

His time in Starfleet passed quickly, and while enjoyable Skorn was keenly aware of the coming deadline. He began to take on more administrative jobs, a quasi-retirement until his time in the exchange program was up. This led to his assignment as the Deputy Commander at Outpost Igelstrom.

[edit] APPENDICES

Skorn was created on December 17, 2006 by Christopher Ash. His intent behind the character was to play a unique role as an exercise in creative writing as well as to expand upon an intriguing race too often overlooked in most Star Trek sources.

The original concept behind Skorn was a Romulan exchange officer specializing in Tactical, but after seeing the involvement of many sims in Gorn affairs, and witnessing a few Gorn NPCs holding a position in Starfleet, the race was changed as was the profession. While most sources point to the Gorn as being just as sophisticated as humans, Chris figured it would be easier to accept a Gorn character that was either security or marine.

Alas, a relatively unknown player simming such a rare character carried with it it's own set of worries and questions. The character was first applied to the USS Destiny, but doubts by the captain led to his rejection. The second vessel applied to was the Edison (now the Athena) with New Deridous being a close third. After careful negotiations and minor changes Skorn was accepted aboard the Athena.
