[edit] BACKGROUND
Stephen McDonald came from a family of both Naval and Marine officers and enlisted men, so it didn't surprise many people when he chose to go in the direction of military service. Unlike the last two generations of McDonald's though Stephen decided to go enlisted and signed his life away immediately after high school. His mother wasn't too happy about it she had hoped he would do something different with his life, but quickly got over it after he expressed his need and love to be a Marine.
Stephen was like most recruits that first arrive on the Island, in awe of such a place with such a great history. That quickly ended when he met four of the meanest Marines he would ever meet in his life. Surviving phase one wasn't a big challenge but pushed Stephen mentally. His father being a West Point graduate didn't tell him of the horrors he would be faced with, and the tortures that his Drill Instructors would put him through.
By his third phase Stephen had shed any and all feelings of uneasiness and was becoming more like the very Sergeants that struck fear into him early on. As he progressed he began to draw attention to himself in a good way, through his knowledge and uncanny ability to handle all sorts of munitions and demolition tools. Later on he was approached by both Colonel Joseph Purnell and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Grant Hinderson, they wanted him to spend his the rest of his time on the Island training with the Recon Ranger as a demolition expert. The opporunity would be a once in a life time thing, and knowing this Stephen took it. He did however almost lose it as well, acting foolishly and during a celebration of graduating boot camp, the young Marine was very brash and allowed his mouth to get him into trouble. At a bar one night he picked a fight with four naval officers, the encounter almost cost him his life.
Once Stephen made private, he was assigned to the 416th Division Ranger unit, and was immediately shipped off to his first actual field assignment, rescuing a Klingon delegates wife and daughter, from a rogue group out of the Federation. It was there that he got a chance to show just what he could do with any kind of weapon in hand. The assignment got him an automatic promotion and his first commendation. The nature of his missions however were so far and between that on his off time Stephen decided to backpack through Japan during leave. It was an event he would never forget. Spending time in a nation that held so tight to its history caused him to request a transfer Okinawa, Japan were the 42nd Division Ranger unit or the 'Midnight Division' operated out of. While there he picked up and became well versed in Ninjitsu being given the honor of the title a Ninja from his sensi and still very good friend, Kiskake Shihōin.
His first mission with the 42nd he was able to put his training to use as they needed to 'steal' a Starfleet frigate back from deep inside Orion territory. It was also the first time anyone saw what would be the new black ops uniform for the 42nd which he created. He would get plenty of use out of it before he knew it as they were called on countless special ops missions due to their high success rate.
He wouldn't see the battlefields until the dominion war though which was something that took its toll on the newly promoted Staff Sergeant. The war was one of the worse experiences of his life, he lost too many friends in what the Fleet called a successful campaign. He was afterward promoted once again, this time to Gunnery Sergeant and headed back to earth where he stayed for a while being promoted to head of the 42nd. Later on in his career he was sent to SWORD-7 were he rejoined his childhood friend. It was there that he found and fell in love with then Lieutenant Alora Anderson. Prior to the decomissioning of SWORD-7 they were married. Stephen didn't want to give up his position however, and moved with the team to Dorvan 5.
Continuing to make a name for himself, Stephen was contacted by a close family friend Lieutenant General Calvin Adams Sr, about a position a little loser to home down in New Parris Island for a drill instructor. Stephen jumped at the chance and thought with a baby on the way now it would be perfect for Alora to be near her mother. So he made the move, but it wasn't long before he was offered another position and this time a promotion. He would be asked to join the crew of Starbase 418 and earn the rank of Master Sergeant, just like before the chance was just too good, but this time he would not uproot his wife having a house built not to far from her mother's ranch, a two level estate like his parents.

[edit] PERSONAL RECORDS
CHILDHOOD
Marine Captain Stephen McDonald Jr first met Lieutenant Junior Grade Michelle Onasis during an assignment which lead him to be in charge of the security detail for the Commandant of the Marine Corps, during a summit in London, England. At the time Michelle was the assistant to the Secretary of Starfleet Personnel. It was love at first sight and the two decided why go through a long relationship and got married three months after the meeting.
The marriage came at a good time for the both of them as shortly after Stephen was stationed in Washington DC as head of security for the Judge Advocate General, this assignment would allow him to be close to his wife as they soon were expecting the birth of their twin boys James and Theodore.
Not wanting to raise their family in such a busy area they moved to the suburbs of Brooklyn, New York. This would then prompt them to finish their little family with their youngest son Stephen.
Growing up Stephen was the type of child that needed adventure in his life. Realizing that his mother and father would often take shore leaves to different mountain ranges this excited Stephen and would often help him focus on his studies as it would clear his head.
When he was sixteen, Stephen and three of his friends decided to travel to China and it was there that Stephen found the one thing in the entire world that would help him focus and give him the excitement he craved. He met and learned from Sifu Willy Ling in the ways of Wushu. This coupled with the very Marine way his father would displine his boys would fuel Stephen's desire to become a Starfleet Marine.
The following year Stephen found himself on the first transport to 'The Island', where he would make a new home for quite a while. Durning his time there he made a few good friends, but one person in particular decided to take him under is wing and teach him everything he knew about demolitions and hand to hand combat, Gunnery Sergeant Donald Ermy. This would send Stephen on a way to a very good career not only in demolitons but the fleet as a whole.
After graduation Stephen was asked by Colonel Joseph Purnell, head of special operations training and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Grant Hinderson to remain on Parris Island and train under the recon rangers as their demolitons expert. The experience was invaluable as he saw a ton of combat time, and special operation missions including saving Ambassador Galrin's wife and daughter, it made an impact on his life.
During leave Stephen's adventurous nature struck again and he departed for Japan, planning to just explore the rich country side and take in some of the history of the country. He never imagined that he would fall in love with the country and culture. After spending some time and learning the language he met and made friends with a man by the name of Kiskake Shihōin. It was his time spent with Kiskake that cause Stephen to make a request to transfer to the base in Okinawa, Japan.
During his time there he finished his training in Ninjutsu, this added knowledged made him a dominate force in his unit. It wasn't long before Stephen's unit was called up for special mission during the dominion war. The war changed Stephen, it was one of the worse battles he had ever seen, and the Jem Hadar were fierce with no remorse for who they killed or what the did. It was during the war that Stephen suffered his first really serious injuries, and afterwards he was given two options, return to Japan and become the Executive Adminstrator of the Okinawa base Special Operations Unit.
A year later he was promoted to Administrator, responsible for all the missions assigning missions based upon class of the squads under his command. It was quite the experience for him considering most of the time Administrators are strictly officers. However the adventurer side of him kicked in and when offered a classified mission to Calder II on the Romulan side of the Romulan Neutral Zone, well he jumped at the chance resigning his position as Administrator.
Following that he immediately proceeded to Breen Space for another classified mission, which left him feeling a bit empty inside. However he completed his mission earning him the right to be stationed with the newest Special Operations Unit the Fleet had to offer, SWORD-VII reuniting him with an old family friend Jessica Adams.
While serving on SWORD he met and fell in love with Alora Anderson. The two courted for a year and were married shortly after Stephen's recovery from a near fatal operation involving the Vice President.
After a major meltdown and the first failed operation Stephen had ever been apart of he was restationed to Dorvan V, but still under the SWORD umbrella. He soon found out he was going to be a father and decided to move back home, taking a short role as a guest instructor at New Parris Island. The couple welcomed in Jesse Michael McDonald to their family the same day Stephen found out about his promotion to Master Sergeant and reassignment to Starbase 418, as Chief Tactical Officer, continuing his career and offically becoming the highest ranking NonCom (Non Commissioned Officer) in his family.
