Subatomic Particles (Technobabble)
From Memory-Zeta
The Star Trek universe opens the door to many particles found that are smaller than an atom. Here is a short overview of some of these elementary particles.
[edit] Subatomic Particles
Anyon
Subatomic particle that can be used to cancel out chroniton particles.
Anti-Chroniton
The anti-particle of a chroniton particle.
Anti-Graviton
The anti-particle of a graviton particle. Anti-Gravitons are used in tractor beams of starships.
Antimatter
Matter which has electrical charge properties that are opposite of normal matter. Antimatter is used to power warp engines on most Federation starships. Antimatter requires magnetic containment.
Beta-Tachyon
A subatomic particle that can only exist at faster-than-light speeds.
Chroniton
A subatomic particle associated with temporal events. Chroniton particles are often emitted by cloaking devices. Chroniton particles may be harmful to the beings living in the Bajoran wormhole.
Dechyon
A subatomic particle that can travel in a temporal causality loop. It has properties of time and subspace.
Graviton
An elementary subatomic particle with properties of gravity. Most artificial gravity systems of starships use gravitons.
Iogenic Particles
Particles charged with anionic energy.
Isonucleic Residue
Subatomic particulate matter found in warp plasma.
Kedion
A subatomic particle that can resonate with positrons.
Lepton
A class of light subatomic particles, such as electrons. Leptons are sometimes emitted when a wormhole opens.
Meson
Subatomic particle sometimes associated with wormholes.
Muon
Also known as a lepton, it is a short-lived sub-atomic particle that can build up on a dilithium chamber.
Nadion
A sub-atomic particle found in the emissions of a phaser beam.
Neutrino
A sub-atomic particle with no mass and no electrical charge. Neutrinos can be found in stars, wormholes, and starship warp signatures.
Nucleogenic Particles
Particles found in a planet's atmosphere that facilitate water to fall as rain. Also known as Condensation Nuclei
Omega Molecule
A very short-lived, unstable particle that contains extreme power. Some theorized that there were Omega molecules present in the Big Bang. Known as Particle 010 to the Borg, they worshiped it as a near deity.
Omicron Particles
Rare sub-atomic particles that can be found in some types of matter/anti-matter reactions and holographic systems.
Polaron
A subatomic particle that can be used as a weapon or to detect cloaked ships. It can also be used to scan ships and stabilize containment fields.
Positron
A subatomic particle that is similar to an electron but with the opposite electromagnetic properties.
Solar Neutrinos
Subatomic particles that are created by the fusion reactions within a star.
Soliton Wave
A wavefront of non-dispersing subspace distortion. It was theorized that such a wave could be an alternative form of warp transportation but failed in early tests.
Subatomic Particle Shower
As the result of shock pulse after a warp core goes critical, this is a dangerous radiation wave.
Tachyon
A subatomic particle that can only exist at faster than light speeds. Can be used to detect a cloaked Romulan vessel.
Terikon Particle Decay
An energy decay rate used by archaeologists to determine the age of an artifact. Similar to carbon dating.
Tetryon
A subatomic particle that exists stably only in subspace and not in normal space. Tetryons have been found near metaphasic shields, quantum singularities and warp fields.
Thoron
A radioactive isotope, that is created from decaying thorium (or radon-220). Thoron fields can often be used to block scans of many kinds.
Vertern
A subatomic particle that is associated with subspace and are often found around wormholes.
Veriton
A subatomic particle that can only be found in white dwarf stars.
Warp Particles
Subatomic particles created by a starship warp field. Can sometimes be used to create subspace instability.
Z Particle
A subatomic particle found in some cloaking technology
