A Vulcan raised on Earth, T'Prynn is a talented scientist with two degrees under her belt. After two years at Starbase 39 Sierra, T'Prynn was assigned as a scientist to the USS Cambrian.
[edit] BACKGROUND
T’Prynn’s father, Sivak, served in Starfleet for nearly fifty years, rising to the rank of Commander and serving as a Chief Engineer on several starships for most of his career. Sivak’s first chosen mate died before the marriage could be complete. Therefore, he spent most of his life assuming that he would remain single. When he retired from Starfleet, he moved to Earth to assist starship designers as a consultant. While living in San Francisco, he met a much younger Vulcan woman named T’Lyva, who had a reputation of being a prodigy in the area of astrophysics. T’Lyva was a civilian faculty member at Starfleet Academy. Unexpectedly, the two returned to Vulcan when both endured pon’farr at roughly the same time. They were married on Vulcan, but neither wished to sacrifice their careers to remain on Vulcan. They returned to Earth to resume their posts and T’Prynn was born shortly thereafter.
T’Prynn’s upbringing differed from the traditional practices present on Vulcan. Despite being on Earth, however, she did not mix that freely with humans or other species. Her social circle was limited to her parents and a small number of other Vulcans, many of whom remained on Earth for only limited periods.
T’Prynn proved to be a very bright and capable child and her mother groomed her for a career as a scientist. T’Prynn dutifully applied herself to her studies, though she proved to have more of an aptitude in biological sciences than in her mother’s specialty of astrophysics. T’Prynn’s cloistered life came to an end when her mother encouraged her to attend a Human university. T’Prynn was accepted at age 16 and spent 4 years living almost exclusively among humans.
Even living on the human homeworld for her whole life did not make this adjustment very easy for T’Prynn. She found the constant exposure to human traits, emotions, and conversation to be somewhat irritating, leading her to develop a somewhat cold personality. Because she was from Earth, many human classmates assumed she would be a less stand-offish Vulcan and were put off when this did not prove to the case. By this time, T’Prynn had grown into an extremely attractive woman. At first she found the attention from human males to be distasteful, but she gradually learned to use her appearance to her advantage, a trait which would also define her Academy tenure.
After graduating with degrees in biology and astrophysics, T’Prynn was approached by Starfleet recruiters to take the entrance exam, which she passed. Her father was indifferent to whether she pursued a career in Starfleet, while her mother quietly discouraged her. T’Prynn settled on the Academy partly as a way to ultimately leave Earth and partly as a way to escape her mother’s shadow. She reasoned that she would have difficulty surpassing T’Lyva’s achievements as a civilian astrophysicist.
Starfleet Academy was an entirely different challenge for T’Prynn. Although she excelled in her chosen focus, Science, she found the command aspects of the curriculum to be difficult and the physical training to be distasteful (although like most Vulcans, she benefited from the increased strength and stamina of her race).
T’Prynn did find the cosmopolitan nature of the Academy to be something of a breath of a fresh air. Though she did find interacting with other Vulcans to be somewhat difficult (primarily because of her eclectic interests), her own feeling of isolation lessened. She remained somewhat cold and indifference to socializing with other cadets, but she was no longer as asocial.
T’Prynn graduated from the Academy with excellent marks in Science, but her mediocre performance in other areas meant that she finished only in the top third of her class, a standing which disappointed her mother and only increased her competitive nature. She was determined to show that her Academy performance was an aberration.
Her first assignment was on Starbase 39 Sierra, located on the Romulan Neutral Zone. T'Prynn was posted to the starbase as an assistant science officer. For two years, she did little other than focus on her duties, giving her exemplary performance reviews, but also several unofficial admonishments to pursue a more balanced life. T'Prynn earned particular notice when her work was instrumental in revealing the non-organic nature of a sickness that spread throughout the starbase from a science ship returning from a planetary nature. This commendation led to her request a transfer to starship duty. When her tour on the base ended, T'Prynn got her wish. She was promoted to lieutenant grade and assigned to the U.S.S. Cambrian.

Education: Because her father and mother declined to return to Vulcan after the birth of T’Prynn, her early education differs from many Vulcan children. She was still drilled in logic from an early age, but she was exposed to few other Vulcan children. An exceptional student of science (thanks largely to her mother), T’Prynn was admitted to the University of California at age 16 and graduated with degrees in biology and astrophysics. She then decided to attend Starfleet Academy.
Languages Known: Federation Standard, Vulcan.
Likes: Melancholy music, ancient Earth literature.
Dislikes: Exercise and physical exertion, large social gatherings, excessively chatty people
Strengths / Talents: T’Prynn has a very analytical mind. She has an innate quickness, and is able to pick up new things fairly quickly. She is also well-versed in Federation history. She can play the piano, dance (something she keeps to herself), and is an exceptional bridge player. She also has the usual Vulcan abilities, such as the mind meld (which she has never attempted) and the nerve pinch.
Weakness / Limitations: T’Prynn has difficulty relating both to non-Vulcans and even her own species, as she grew up primarily on Earth. She comes across as cold and dispassionate, even for a Vulcan. She also projects an air of indifference to almost anything other than her particular interests (which she takes care not to reveal) and science. She is extremely competitive, though this is something she denies. Her competitive nature arises mostly from her parents’ expectations of her and the fact she was often the only Vulcan among groups of humans.
Ambitions, quirks, interests & hobbies: T’Prynn has a habit of staring off into space when she is concentrating, which can sometimes make her seem like she is daydreaming. She does not like to be teased about this, because “Vulcans don’t daydream.” In her free time, T’Prynn enjoys bridge and similar card games, logic puzzles, and playing the piano. T’Prynn is also fascinated with Earth literature, especially from the 18th and early 19th centuries, something that is unusual for a Vulcan. She considers herself an expert on authors such as Jane Austen, and is quite capable of quoting from works from this period at length. T’Prynn’s ultimate goal is to be a chief science officer on board a starship. She has not decided whether she would enjoy command, but suspects that being a captain would limit her ability to do research and perform experimentation.
