Te’len was the Andorian commander of the embedded marine platoon aboard the USS Cambrian (NCC-74986-A). When not on duty he enjoys a drink, using his stuffed, blood-red, man-eating Tribble as a bottle opener.
[edit] BACKGROUND
Growing up deep within the ice moon of Andoria, Te’len showed signs of his future career by often getting into fights with other children. It was during his childhood that his skill with the Ushaan-Tor was founded. He could often be found practicing with the weapon, imaging himself as a warrior in the Imperial Guard. His wish soon came true as he was placed on the Imperial Guard Training Classes whilst at school. It is considered normal for Andorian children to be trained from a very young age.
When he was twelve years old, Te’lens father, Stu’ran, a Commander in the Imperial Guard was involved in a shuttle accident whilst off planet. As per Imperial Guard tradition his comrades brought his body back to Andoria, where a vial of his blood was placed in the Wall of Heroes. The loss of his father hit Te’len hard as his family was everything to him. But as he grew older he began to see the Imperial Guard as his new family.Te’len joined the Andorian Imperial Guard as soon as he was old enough. After completing basic training he was posted to the 2nd Andoria Battalion, where he served for 6 years being promoted to Lieutenant in 2364. His duties in the defence force were routine and mundane, and it wasn’t long before he began to crave more action. His actions during an industrial dispute in the southern sector led to a promotion to Captain, and a transfer to the 4th Battalion. Life in the Imperial Guard proved too sedate for Te’len, and in 2371 he resigned his commission, the hardest thing he hard ever had to do, and took the Starfleet entrants exams.
Transferring to Starfleet Academy, he began his training to become a Marine within Starfleet. He believed that this would allow him to see much more action, and put his skills to good use. He went through the Academy with ease, and soon found himself passing-out as a Second Lieutenant. His experiences from the Imperial Guard obviously helped him through the Academy. Upon his graduation he was posted to the 44th Regiment in the 8th Marine Division. As soon as he arrived with his Regiment they moved out and headed for the Chin’toka System. Te’len saw plenty of action during this period, often being seen at the front of the fight. During a routine patrol he got separated from his squad, losing his rifle after falling down a ravine. He was cornered by three Cardassians and only managed to fight them off using his Ushaan-Tor. The Dominion tried several times to retake the system, but were held of for much of 2375. It wasn’t until the end of the year that the Allied forces were forced to withdraw.
In 2378 Te’len was made Squad Leader after proving his leadership skills to his commanding officer. Throughout the next 3 years he saw plenty of action, moving to different trouble spots throughout the quadrant. It was around this time that he began to see the Marine Corp as his family, somewhere he could feel at home. His abilities were soon recognised by his commanding officers and in 2381 he was promoted to First Lieutenant and made Commander of the 115th Platoon. After two years serving as Platoon Commander he requested a transfer to a Platoon aboard a Starship, as he thought this would help advance his career, and allow him to see more action. He didn’t have to wait long as a position opened up aboard the USS Cambrian.
During 2383 whilst undertaking his first mission as Platoon Commander aboard the USS Cambrian, Te'len lead a squad of Marines in a low orbit jump onto the surface of Paragonia. The mission was to take out the cannon's which were firing on the stranded Cambrian and capture the colony's Administrator. However, the squad wasn't prepared to face the overwhelming numbers of Klingons that they encountered. During hours of tough fighting Te'len found his squad decimated; only three marines surviving. Luckily at the last minute a relief force of Marines arrived from the USS Galahad helping them turn the tide and win the day.
With the destruction of the Akira-class Cambrian, Te'len had a decision to make on whether to remain with the crew, or take a posting elsewhere. He chose to remain, and became Platoon Commander of the Marines aboard the newly commissioned Nebula-class USS Cambrian A. The shakedown cruise proved an interesting fair, as a drunk Te'len went on the Great Tribble Hunt after some of the critters were discovered aboard. The culprits of these mutant Tribbles were finally captured, and Te'len kept one of the man-eating Tribbles as a memento, having it stuffed and placed on his desk.
His experiences aboard the Cambrian have found Te'len beginning to drink more than he used to, the soothing effects of Andorian Ale helping him cope with the stressful situations he has just been through. Despite his drinking Te'len is still totally professional during operations, and only hits the bottle when missions are complete.
In 2385 the Cambrian was dispatched to the Hurucan Sector to provide assistance to the stranded USS Oberon. With an Outpost being established on Sigma Librae II in the Sector, the Cambrian finds itself operating out of the new base. During the early days of this new posting the Marines, from both the Cambrian and Oberon, are sent to investigate a signal from a rogue planet in the systems asteroid field. Once there they find themselves in a bloody fight with dark reptilian creatures that they come to call Raptors. The Battle of RP908 is a bloody affair and the Marines lose many good men. With several others ending up wounded the marines only survived when the Raptors left the planet by way of a rescue ship. The Marines later find a crashed ship on the planet before they themselves are evacuated to the Cambrian.
Later that same year the USS Cambrian received a distress signal at went to offer assistance. However, the ship that was in distress had been trapped in the Nexus and the Cambrian found itself pulled in. Inside the extra-dimensional realm, Te'len found himself living back on Andor with a wife and children. This new life was full of happiness for Te'len and he soon forgot about his former life. However, when some members of the Cambrian crew realised what was happening and managed to avoid the Nexus with the Cambrian, Te'len found himself pulled out of the happiness that his Nexus life had offered. Instead he found himself being forced to deal with the brutal reality that was life in the Hurucan Sector.
The traumatic events of 2385 spilled over into 2386 and Te'len began to lose himself in drink, using alcohol to ease the pain that couldn't be fixed in sickbay. There were moments when Te'len was free of the drink that he was able to perform his duties as Platoon Commander, but these moments were rare and he'd soon return to the bottle, especially with the long-periods of inactivity that a Marine aboard a Starship found himself with. Nevertheless, Te'len and certain other members of his platoon were decorated for their involvement in rescuing the crew of the USS Valkyrie after it they were abducted by Pirates operating in the Sector.
At the beginning of 2387 there were many changes aboard the USS Cambrian. Long time Captain Mek'tor received a promotion to Commodore and was transferred away from the ship. Te'len was sorry to see the Klingon Captain leave as he'd been proud to serve under the Warrior. With the departure of Mek'tor, Executive Officer Sarah Hawkins was appointed as Acting Captain. The transitions didn't help with Te'lens mental traumas and another attack of the mutant Tribbles aboard Starbase 326 did little to lift his mood.

Psychological Report “Te’len is exceptionally driven which shows that he is either passionate about being a marine, or that some other force is driving him to succeed. The death of his father at such a young age has obviously impacted upon his mentality, and this could be the reason that he strives to be the best that he can.” Dr Andrus Ralan, Counsellor.
