Commander Fields is the Executive Officer of the Sovereign-class USS Bismarck.

Taylor was a very quiet child and in school she always found it very boring as she learned very quickly. So much so, she skipped Grade 2 and 3. Even still, she didn't have that much difficulty with the curriculum, but teachers were unwilling to skip her ahead any more grades in fear she would not be able to adjust to the difficulty level. In her first year of high school, she was not treated well because she was seen as a know-it-all twit. But her social situation improved in Grade 10 as she became more involved in sports. Her interest into studying law peaked when she took the course in Grade 11. This, along with the after-school Leadership course, were her favourite subjects in high school.

She went to university when she 16 and got a Bachelor of Arts majoring in History and Politics. She then applied to, and was accepted into law school. She earned her Bachelor of Law and a year later was a member of the Ontario Bar. She practised law in Ontario for 3 years and then decided she wanted to try something a bit more challenging. She applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted. Taylor enjoyed the Academy, but couldn't wait to start practising in space. When she was assigned to Starbase 281, she found it extremely challenging, but still enjoyed practising. She was promoted a year later and served for two years as the Chief JAG Officer aboard the Starbase. Then, in 2382 she was offered the position of 'Acting' Executive Officer aboard the USS Bismarck and decided to take the chance and accepted the position.

After Fields took over, she was able to ease herself into the position, and was able to hone her skills in Command. After Commander Kane was called away to do work for Intelligence, Fields had temporary command of the Bismarck for a few missions, before being called to Earth to face a board of inquiry after the Bismarck was subject to numerous attacks from the Keralens. She eventually returned to the Bismarck unscathed, and also with the knowledge that her long-time boyfriend, Lieutenant Stuart Deschamps, would be joining her at Starbase 836 as the Chief JAG officer.
