[edit] Summary
The USS Bismarck is assigned a solo mission in which only some of the senior staff know the full details, with the cover story being that it is a humanitarian mission. Bismarck departs for its destination, approximately five days journey away. Captains Bristow and Vaughn are onboard to for the intelligence side of the mission that only Kane, Major Murphy (the former Intel Agent serving as the Bismarck’s Platoon Commander ), and the new CIO Lt Commander Hughes will be involved in and know about. Graham and Kairi had been enjoying shore leave on DS9 when they got word of Bismarck ’s impending departure, but Golbez, who gots jealous and cut off Graham’s right forearm in a lightsabre duel on a malfunctioning holodeck. Dr Bashir implants a prosthetic forearm on Pallett.
Kane discusses the mission with Fields, where Fields expresses concern about using illegal cloaking technology, and Kane organizes a dinner for her senior officers. The real mission is the infiltration of an organized crime syndicate based in the basement of a night club who is holding a Federation diplomat as a hostage Hughes recalls an undercover mission a month ago – as the notorious gunrunner Jayne – which succeeded in blowing up two Syndicate vessels. Graham is having trouble with his prosthetic arm. A Dowd, Sem, confesses to Golbez that he was partially responsible for the incident, by making Kairi transmit her telepathic powers irrationally, and asks for Golbez’s help to save Kairi’s life.
Kane’s dinner party begins. She mentions that she selected “Prussia” and “Bavaria” to be the names for the two Delta Flyers. Dr Manuel treats Pallett’s malfunctioning arm with nanaoprobes. After the party, Kane discusses the covert nature of the mission with Vaughn and Bristow, and they plan to use the Aerowing, Brandenberg.
The cloaked Aerowing Brandenberg departs, with Vaughn , Murphy, Bristow, Hughes, and Kane. They enter a binary system with two M-Class inhabited planets. They are meet by a pair of Keralin escorts, the Kerelin's are the native people of Tharadonda the 4th Planet the first M-Class planet in the system. The Intel officers beam down to infiltrate a crime lords operation, hidden under the cover of a nightclub. The criminal mastermind known as Naols Nivra is believed to be holding a federation ambassador and his aid captive for ransom. Nivra is also thought to be responsible for the recent increase of pirating activates in the area.
Onboard the Bismarck, Fields is tasked with attempting diplomatic efforts with the planet's ruling government under First Minister Hushub Rical about a peaceful alliance between the Federation and the Kerelins. Eventually leading to possible joining with the Federation. Bismarck is attacked by a trio of Naols Nivra's pirate ships just outside the Tharadonda system. The Bismarck disables them but they suffer heavy damage and are facing a warp core breach. They jettison the core and are forced to land on a planet to make repairs. They use explosives and a shuttle’s phasers to dig a pit to lower the replacement core into. Despite his fears of flyer, Rhodes pilots the shuttle.
Bismarck returns to Starbase 836 for further repairs. Kane is abruptly called away on a special mission involving her father, so Admiral Black gives Lt Cmdr Fields acting command of the Bismarck. Kairi is unusually rambling and flirtatious.
Pallett sets off to track down Kairi. While in transit to Starbase 836, Langdon’s aide took recommends that he see a counselor about his issues over the crew who died. Serege meets with the new Ensign Ro. Fields learns of Langdon abandoning his post while back on the planet, and summons him to her office for a meeting. People celebrate at the party to the tune of “Wasn’t That a Party.” Many of the crew are hung over the next morning at their staff meeting.
