Tom is a former Commanding Officer of the USS Hyperion (NCC-7438-F).

[edit] BACKGROUND

Thomas (prefers Tom or TJ) was born in New Zealand, where his father was the Senior Engineering Tutor at the Starfleet Penal facility. Tom spent every hour he could with his father as he was growing up and, as a result of that, developed a deep interest in two things. Starfleet and being an Engineer.

Tom had an uneventful childhood, growing up in a happy home surrounded by a loving family.

He has a very strong bond with all of his siblings and enjoys catching up with them whenever he can.

[edit] STARFLEET CAREER HISTORY

When Tom and his twin sister, Tanya, were 17 they were accepted into Starfleet Academy. Tanya decided early on that she wanted to be a Science Officer while Tom discovered, to his surprise, he just wanted to be an Engineering NCO, so when Tanya was starting her 3rd year at the Academy, Tom was starting his 1st at the Starfleet Engineering Institute.

Whilst on his cadet cruise aboard the USS Halcyon, Tom impressed the Chief Engineer aboard so much that the man arranged for Tom to be posted to the Halcyon on his graduation. Over the next 5 years, Tom fulfilled his role diligently and efficiently, making his way through the ranks until his promotion to Chief late 2369. During this time he developed a reputation for being an extremely efficient Engineer who kept his head in critical situations. The next year saw him posted to the USS Nova where, after assisting the Chief Intelligence Officer with an operation to discover a smuggler within the crew, he came under the scrutiny of Starfleet Intelligence.

He was recruited by Section 13 of Starfleet Intelligence in mid 2373 and spent the next 3 years back at Starfleet Academy and at various Starfleet Intelligence Training Facilities enhancing his latent language and explosive demolitions skills.

2376 saw Tom assigned to a deep cover assignment on Romulus during the Dominion War. His assignment; to monitor Romulan politics (as a Senator's aide) to see whether the Romulans would join the Cardassians in the war and to prevent such a Union where possible. Tom was not the only deep cover operative on Romulus during this time, nor was he the most successful, but it was due in part to the efforts of he and his fellow agents that the Romulans joined with the Federation during the conflict. It was during his time on Romulus that Tom came to absolutely loathe the food (especially the spicy soup favored in the Central highlands district) and the first thing he did after his marathon debriefing at Starbase Tango was get himself a steak dinner. He spent another few months at Starbase Tango temporarily assigned to the Intelligence Section there while waiting confirmation of his posting to the USS Casey.

Whilst on board the Casey, Tom had his commission as Ensign confirmed and shortly after earned a promotion to Lieutenant(jg).

During his first mission aboard, Tom encountered a group of alien life forms that communicated telepathically and was chosen by them to act as a conduit for communication with the rest of the Casey's crew. Unfortunately this left Tom in a coma that he didn’t recover from until the Casey had limped back to the nearest Starbase.

He was transferred to a secure Intel facility for a debriefing and it was after that he asked for and was granted an indefinite leave of absence from his Intel duties. At the suggestion of the Counsellor assigned to him during his debrief, he returned to Starfleet Academy for Basic and Advanced flight training and found, to his pleasant surprise, that he had something of a flair for flying.

He was transferred to Deep Space 7 for general and special flight duties while waiting for a Starship berth to become available. He does find it something of a coincidence that he is back on the Federation-Romulan border, he does take some comfort in knowing the region reasonably well. His orders to report to the USS Hyperion as Chief CONN Officer came as a surprise, but one that he was more than happy to receive.

The next few years were full of action, suspense, drama, sadness and joy for Tom...in other words, a typical Federation Starship posting.

He thrived as the Hyperion's Chief CONN Officer and it showed. He was promoted and assigned as the ship's Third Officer, working his way through the appointments of Second Officer, Executive Officer and now as it's Commanding Officer, finally fulfilling one of his lifelong ambitions.

(after all Jean-Luc Picard was a Captain at 28 & Tom's twin sister has her own command). Most people are unaware that Tom's first 15 years in Starfleet were as an NCO.

........Tom is still struggling to accept the events of his "encounter" with the alien entities during his mission aboard the USS Casey. His tendency to sleep with the light on is a coping mechanism that will, in time, no longer be required. I have no hesitation in recommending that this Officer can be returned to active duty.
