With a reputation as a trouble-shooter Tyrus is now tasked with over-seeing the long-term exploration of the Hurucan Sector, Starfleet’s New Frontier. Currently he is based out of the Sigma Librae Outpost and serves as its Commanding Officer
[edit] BACKGROUND
Tyrus was born on Alpha Centauri, the son of two young Starfleet officers. His parents, Aloisius and Denise were both young Lieutenants who were dedicated, career officers. Denise had returned home to have Tyrus, but not long after they returned to join Aloisius aboard the USS Saratoga. The Hawke family were always moving, and when his parents careers took differint paths for a brief period, Tyrus returned with his mom to the Saratoga. Aloisius spent three years away from his wife and son, but when he was promoted to Commander he was able to arrange it so they could be stationed on the same vessel.
Always changing places Tyrus was never in the same place lone enough to make many friends, but the one thing he always tried to do was study hard in class. This became the focus of his childhood, the one constant that he could control. As he grew older he began to resent the constant changes, but his mom was always aware of this and always tried to include him in their discussions. Throughout his childhood his Father was a domineering figure, and it was from him that Tyrus learnt about respect and leadership.
Inevitably when he was old enough Tyrus took and passed the Starfleet entrants exam, and after 16 years he finally returned to Alpha Centauri to attend Sixth Fleet Academy.
During his Cadet years Tyrus was an exceptional student, always near the top of his class. His first course of study was as a diplomatic officer, but when it came time for his Cadet Cruise he was pushed into trying Intelligence. His experience and analytical skills shone in this area and upon his return to the Academy he completed the Intelligence expansion course.
Finally graduating from the Academy Tyrus was posted to Starbase 84 as an Intelligence Analyst. Collating and assessing data from all over the sector, he found the stability of being aboard a Starbase a welcome change to his childhood, and he realised that this is the kind of assignment for him. Gradually he began to understand the entire Intelligence department, and when he made some proposals regarding the organisational structure of the department, his impressed Chief put him up for promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade.
In all Tyrus spent 15 happy years at Starbase 84, and came to think of it as home. He was a self-confessed career man, never feeling the need to marry or have children. He rose through the ranks within the Intelligence Department, finally becoming Chief Intelligence Officer in 2361. After nearly four years of running his own department he’d transformed his unit into one of the most efficient and productive within the fleet. Sixth Fleet Command also offered him a new challenge, something totally different from what he’d been doing for the past twenty years. Alpha Centauri B Ship Yards were one of the few ship building facilities within Sixth Fleet, and over recent years the productivity of the facility had begun to decline. Keen to turn this around they were putting in a new Command Team. The new Commanding Officer and the Brass and Command HQ, impressed by he work Tyrus had done at SB84 wanted him for the position as XO.
Never one to refuse a challenge Tyrus accepted the post and set about transforming the Ship Yards. There was a lot to do, and after only a year in the position as XO Tyrus was surprised to find that his Commanding Officer was retiring. Command came to inspect the Yards upon the CO’s departure and they were impressed by the progress that had been made. Instantly they promoted Tyrus to the Command position and he became responsible for the Ship Yards. Over the next eight years he managed to transform the facility, and the Alpha Centauri B hip Yards became known as an efficient unit that prided itself on excellence. This achievement did not go unnoticed and he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his services. In 2373, and for his efforts at the facility during the Dominion War Tyrus was promoted to Captain, achieving the rank his mother had attained during her service.
With Alpha Centauri B Ship Yards now running almost perfectly, Starfleet Command wanted Tyrus to do the same at another ailing facility. In 2373 he became Commanding Officer of Starbase 234, a Starbase that had recently been having difficulties with disruptive crew. Tyrus came in and changed how the base was run, removing the trouble makers and promoting those who deserved it. The job at SB234 was not nearly as desperate as the Ship Yards, and Tyrus soon had the Starbase running effectively.
Tyrus had now earned himself a reputation as a trouble-shooter; able to transform dysfunctional facilities. Keen to put his expertise to use Command moved him from Starbase 234 to Sixth Fleet HQ. They made him Deputy Chief of Staff, and tasked him with transforming areas of the fleet. He did well in this new role, and impressed the senior flag officer with whom he worked closely. In 2378 he was promoted to Commodore and made Chief of Staff. He remained at Sixth Fleet Command for a further six years but when, in 2384 Starfleet began to look towards exploration into new areas, Tyrus was given the task of organising this. After years of war and conflict the fleet was now turning back towards exploration, and an area that they were keen to explore was the Hurucan Sector. Beyond Romulan Space this region had produced some interesting long range sensor readings, and Tyrus began to gather a staff to fully explore the region. Late in 2384 he moved his office to Starbase 326, the closest facility to the Hurucan Sector where he was instrumental in deciding to send an expedition to examine the system of Sigma Librae.
