[edit] Overview
The USS Cambrian NCC-74986 was an Akira-class carrier-variant operating in the area surrounding Starbase K-7. The Cambrian was the lead ship in a group known coloquially as the "Fighting Dinos" which consisted of the USS Jurassic and USS Cretaceous escort vessels (both steamrunner class). The Cambrian and her escort vessels were based out of Starbase K-7, which was being administered by a civilian corporation of Klingons.
After heavy combat action in her final, fateful mission, the USS Cambrian limped back to her home berth at Starbase K-7. Thankfully, most of her Senior Staff and crew survived, but the ship was damaged to such an extent that she was decommissioned in 2384.
The Cambrian was also the home of "Evil Cohorts Incorporated", a mischievous group of writers founded by the ship's former CO and CMO.

[edit] "The Paragon Patch War"
The USS Cambrian has been sent into the Paragon Patch, a set of three star systems enclosed within a shell of asteroids, to investigate the sudden appearance of photon torpedoes in a war between the two occupied planets of the system known as PP Delta. Prior to the use of the torpedoes, neither society showed technological development past the equivalent of early 21st century Terra. The Cambrian's job is to pierce the protective asteroid field, stop off in the system known as Paragonia to visit a Klingon colony that has existed there for hundreds of years with no immigration and only supplies for support from the Klingon Homeworld, and then to investigate the happenings in PP Delta to determine from where the Torpedoes came and try to prevent any more from being used.

When Commodore Schimpff, commanding officer of Starbase K-7, is abducted from his office by a Klingon Bird of Prey, the "Fighting Dinos" are ordered to give chase and rescue the Commodore.
