USS Galacta (NCC-2003)

From Memory-Zeta

The USS Galacta is an NPC vessel, referenced in the backstories of several characters created by Jason Atkins. It was originally intended as an in-joke reference to the Battlestar Galactica series, the "miniseries" pilot of which first aired in 2003 (hence, NCC-2003). Ironically, one of the Star Trek pen and paper RPGs produced a list of starships, which included a listing of the USS Galacta as the Excelsior-class NCC-2003, hence the slight name variation.

The USS Galacta (NCC-2003) was an Excelsior-class starship built around the same time as the USS Excelsior. During the Cardassian Wars, however, the Galacta was heavily damaged. Starfleet elected to build a new vessel out of the surviving parts, and stock spares. The new vessel was configured as a Shelley-class carrier, and the conversion was explained as a "refit".

Eventually retired after the Dominion War, the USS Galacta was ultimately replaced by the USS Galacta-A, an Akira-class starship in the same production run as the USS Pegasus-D.
